Ingrown toenails occur when the side of the nail cuts into the skin next to the nail. Typically this is a painful condition that does not resolve without careful intervention. The skin next to the nail may also become infected or inflamed. Any toe can be affected, but the big toes are most often affected. It is a common problem but should be dealt with quickly to avoid the risk of infection or spreading further into the foot.

Our Chiropodists can help you with your ingrown toenails!

Diabetes & Cracked Heels 👣

Living with Diabetes means paying close attention to your feet. While dry skin and cracked heels may seem minor, cracks in the skin can create an entry point for infection and may become more serious if left untreated.

Signs to watch for:

✔️Dry, rough skin
✔️Thick calluses around the heel
✔️Cracks or fissures in the skin
✔️Redness, pain, or drainage

Regular foot checks, proper moisturizing, and routine chiropody care can help keep your feet healthy and prevent complications.

If you’ve noticed dry, cracked heels, don’t ignore them. Early treatment can make a big difference!

Contact our clinic to book an assessment and keep your feet healthy from heel to toe. 🦶

May is foot health month and your foot health matter’s!

Plantar warts are caused by a virus which may invade the sole of the foot through cuts and breaks in the skin. Walking barefoot can increase your risk of contracting the virus.

Common places warts are contracted from are:

👣 Community Showers and/or pools
👣 Gyms
👣 Your own household (if someone in your home has the virus, they can spread it)

Are you unsure if you have a wart on your foot? Call or email us to book an assessment!

Diabetes can have a serious effect on your foot health. It is recommended to get your feet checked at least once a year and monitor for complications.

Check out this information from Wounds Canada (2021):

“Foot health should be a major consideration for people with diabetes and for those who care for them. Foot complications in this high-risk population can lead to a cascade of complications, potentially resulting in loss of limb and life. The lifetime risk for foot ulceration in people with diabetes is 15 to 25%. According to the International Diabetes Federation, persons with diabetes are 15 to 40 times more likely to require lower-extremity amputation compared to the general population. Approximately 85% of amputations are preceded by the development of a neuropathic foot ulcer.”
