Vale Sports Development Team The Vale Council's Sports Development Team assist with developing sports and play activities, as well as delivering activities and events.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council's Sports & Play Development Team (Healthy Living Team) help develop, and deliver sports and play provision across the Vale of Glamorgan. At various times during the year the team will deliver activities including playschemes, Play Rangers, play events and sports activities. During our events and scheme the activities can include arts and crafts, den building, outdoor

play, sports, small worlds and messy play.The team also assist other organisations such as sports clubs and play providers with assistance with areas such as training, funding and promotion. They are also able to assist with promotion of local opportunities.

🌟 A fantastic start to the day at Barry Island for the launch of the King’s Baton Commonwealth Games Relay!

We were thrilled to see local community volunteers proudly representing the Vale, including:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Jon Nethercott – Gold Medal Paralympian who represented Team GB at the Barcelona Olympics and silver medal winner in Atlanta Olympics. 👏🇬🇧

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Max B - Representing the 150 Young Sports Ambassadors from the Vale and also panel member for Youth Sport Trust’s National Panel for Wales, acting as the youth ambassador voice for Vale young people

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Lyn Evans - Representing the fantastic parkrun movement in the Vale. Lyn was one of the run directors when Barry Island park run started in 2015 and subsequently set up Cosmeston Lakes parkrun. He is also event Ambassador for South Wales driving the parkrun movement.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Chloe McBartney - A local footballer representing England at the World Grand Prix and currently working towards European championships. Alongside her playing success, Chloe is passionate about giving back—leading inclusive football sessions in Barry through a pan-disability club.

A proud moment for our community! 💙

The community baton holders were also joined by local and National past and current elite athletes.

🌊👑 Barry Island welcomes Commonwealth Games Kings Baton Relay to the Vale! 👑🌊

This Friday 19 June, the King’s Baton Relay is reaching Wales ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer! 🏃‍♂️🔥

And it is landing in Barry 👇
🚤The baton will arrive by sea by volunteer RNLI crew to be brought ashore by RNLI lifeguards who will hand it to a series of guest runners.

📍 Be part of the moment!
Join the arrival on Whitmore Bay beach (near No.4 on the sea wall) by 9.30am and help give the baton the huge Welsh welcome it deserves 🙌
