We think it’s time to reshare this reminder.

Disabled people are not the problem, barriers are.

The social model of disability makes it clear that people are disabled by inaccessible environments, systems and attitudes.

Learn more about removing these barriers and creating a more inclusive society through our Social Model Toolkit: https://www.disabilitywales.org/resources/

Nawr bod Llywodraeth newydd Cymru ar waith, rhaid i bleidiau gwleidyddol ledled Cymru barhau i weithio i gael gwared ar y rhwystrau sy'n eithrio pobl anabl o fywyd gwleidyddol.

Mae pobl anabl yn ffurfio un rhan o bump o'r boblogaeth yng Nghymru, ond maent yn parhau i fod heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol ar draws ymgyrchu, arweinyddiaeth, gwneud penderfyniadau a chyfranogiad y cyhoeddus.

Mae Siarter Mynediad at Wleidyddiaeth yn nodi camau ymarferol y gall pleidiau gwleidyddol eu cymryd i adeiladu democratiaeth fwy hygyrch, cynhwysol a chynrychioliadol.

Now the new Welsh Government is in place, political parties across Wales must continue working to remove the barriers that exclude disabled people from political life.

Disabled people make up one fifth of the population in Wales, yet remain underrepresented across campaigning, leadership, decision-making and public participation.

The Access to Politics Charter sets out practical steps political parties can take to build a more accessible, inclusive and representative democracy.

Last week, we asked our members what accessibility means to them.

They told us it's all about equity and belonging.

Accessibility isn't a luxury. It creates more inclusive spaces and ensures people can engage and participate on equal terms.

This Global Accessibility Awareness Day and beyond, let’s prioritise accessibility.

Let’s bust some common misconceptions about accessibility this Global Accessibility Awareness Day. 🌍

Accessibility is essential for creating more inclusive spaces for disabled people, and it should never be considered a luxury or an afterthought.

It’s everyone’s responsibility.

Image description: White title text reads: Myths vs Facts - Accessibility. Underneath are two columns, the left is titled 'myth' and has orange boxes with black writing and the right one is titled 'fact' with black text in green boxes. Each box has an arrow pointing from the myth to the fact. Myths: Accessibility isn't important. Accessibility is expensive. Accessibility limits creativity. Accessibility isn't my responsibility. Facts: Accessibility is essential for equal access, independence and participation. Building accessibility in from the start is often more cost effective than fixing barriers later. Accessibility encourages clearer, more inclusive and more thoughtful design. Accessibility is everyone's responsibility. DW's logo is in the top right corner.
