This came up on my personal “memories” page, &, with some new faces around here I thought I would reshare it! Xx
Why I chose the Phoenix as my logo....
About 11years ago I was working as a Production Coordinator in the Media Industry in London. I was fortunate enough to work for some fantastic television channels, & organisations, doing a variety of job roles with in the industry. One day in particular I remember sitting eating my lunch in the reception of the “doughnut” part of Television Centre & watching all these people coming & going, & I just thought to myself “I will always be a very tiny fish in a huge huge pond”. It really resonated with me that I had no clear path for my career - I liked a bit of everything about each job & could easily be put in to any team. I look back now & I can see that I was actually lacking in drive & determination to make it any higher than I was, & was therefore coasting along. One of my last jobs saw me work for a corporation that was known as being a very “happy” brand & family....but unfortunately I experienced bullying, aimed at me. I saw out 5months of my 9month contract, & in the month that followed I made my decision to leave the Industry & pursue my other passion in life, fitness.
As a child I had grown up with a Dad who had played International Rugby, & ran 100m at a very high level too. We were fortunate enough to live in Sussex at that time & so had access to brilliant sports teams. I played Hockey at School but Netball was my true love! We also trained & competed at Dog Agility, something that most of you will know I still do now. So sports, fitness & the therapies that we need to keep us going & competing at high levels were always in my life.
When I decided to retrain that also meant a big move, from my home town & my friends, down to sleepy Dorset, to where my parents had relocated. I took a 3month intensive course in Personal Training & Sports Massage, followed this with getting some work in a local gym, before moving on to work in a private Boys’ School Sports Centre. So many couldn’t believe that I’d chosen this life over the life I’d had before, & the money, but to me it was the best thing that I could have done.
I asked a graphic designer to come up with a logo for me, the brief being “something like a Phoenix coming out of some cupped hands” Well what I got back was better than I could have imagined.
The Phoenix is seen as a symbol of re birth, of regeneration, of over coming darkness & rising from the ashes. In many ways I viewed the Phoenix of a symbol of me starting again. But it can also be a symbol of what my work aims to do - through Sports & Deep Tissue Massage I aim to regenerate muscles, to rejuvenate the mind & body, & to help my clients to feel better as they leave the clinic than they did when they walked in. This is why my logo is so special to me, as is my business & everyone who supports me in my journey. Xx
