Findyourbackbone

Findyourbackbone James Power is an Alexander Technique teacher based in Knutsford. Reduce back and neck pain. Improve posture. Find freedom.

I’ve dedicated my life to teaching the Alexander Technique because it helped me reduce stress, release back and neck pain, and rebuild my confidence.

My dad died 15 years ago, and remember how I struggled to function. I tried counselling, exercise, diets - but the only thing that truly helped me was breathwork. It helped me let go of stress and tension in a way nothing else could.

Now I’m hosting a Breathwork Masterclass at House of Social, Manchester. Spaces are limited.

In memory of my dad, I’m offering free spaces to NHS staff, emergency services, and students.

If you need to exhale, reset, and reconnect, this is for you.

Every June, around Father’s Day, I do a run or walk in memory of my dad, who died in June in tragic circumstances. This year marks 15 years without him.

On Sunday, I completed the Colshaw Hall 10K and I didn’t sleep a wink the night before. I had been struggling to run and had fallen badly few weeks ago.

It’s strange how a big loss can stay with you.

There have been so many moments over the years when I wished I could pick up the phone, hear his voice, ask his advice, or simply tell him what was going on in my life. Grief is the price you pay for love and it never completely leaves you. It becomes something you learn to carry and it does get easier.

As I stood on the start line on Sunday, I wasn’t just thinking about the miles ahead. I was thinking about the last 15 years. The challenges, the setbacks, the lessons, and the people who helped me keep moving forward.

One thing that has transformed my life during that time is breathwork.

I’ve tried many ways to cope with stress, and the weight that life can place on our shoulders. But learning how to use my breath changed everything.

Before the race, I used breathwork to calm my nerves, steady my mind, and prepare my body. It’s something I now teach every day because I’ve experienced its impact firsthand.

As I crossed the finish line, I felt grateful, and emotional.

Not because of the time on the clock. I’m not a fast runner.
But because another year had passed.

And yet, somehow, I know he’s still with me in the values he taught me, the resilience he inspired, and the determination to keep going when life gets hard.

If you’ve lost someone you love, I’d love to know: what’s one thing you do to keep their memory alive?

On 20th June, I’ll be delivering one of my Breathwrk courses at the House of Social in Manchester, completely free of charge for NHS staff and emergency service workers.
This is something my company has done from the very beginning as a way of saying thank you to the incredible people who dedicate their lives to helping others, often in the most challenging circumstances.
Having spent a lot of time in hospital when I was younger, I have a deep appreciation for the care, compassion, and commitment shown by NHS and emergency service staff. Being able to give something back through the work I do today means a great deal to me.
The breathwork course I’ve created is designed to provide simple, practical tools that help reduce stress, improve resilience, and support overall wellbeing. It’s amazing how something as simple as your breath can have such a powerful impact on your mind and body.
I’m looking forward to sharing these techniques and helping attendees experience first-hand just how effective breathwork can be.
A huge thank you to everyone working across the NHS and emergency services.

D/m me for details of how to book. Spaces are limited.

We spend so much time rushing toward a “perfect” future, missing the only moment that actually matters.
The Alexander Technique is an invitation into the sacred pause. It’s the powerful choice to stop, step out of the rush, and anchor yourself in the present. Only when we are truly here can we redirect our attention toward something constructive. 🕊️
Stop. Breathe. Redirect.

A huge thank you to all the friends, family, and supporters who came along to support the fundraising event for Knutsford Primary Schools. Your encouragement and generosity made the day so special.

We really enjoyed this gig

Thank you to the band for being awesome.

I used to really dislike speaking or performing in public, but breathwork has been a game-changer in helping me manage stage fright and step outside my comfort zone.

In the pause between breaths, tension gives way to truth.

Like the archer releasing without force, or the spine lengthening without effort, the power is in the letting go. 🌬️🎯

I love the book zen in the art of archery. It has some fantastic insights and a lovely story about a man’s search for peace and the power of breathwork.

This workshop carried a very special meaning for me. I spent a significant amount of time in the hospital as a child recovering from a stroke, this weekend was a massive full-circle moment. I want to send a heartfelt thank you to the incredibly kind nurses, doctors, and hospital staff who supported me throughout my recovery and helped me get back to doing what I love.

Huge thanks also to the House Social team for the flawless hosting, and to everyone who showed up for themselves this weekend. You were wonderful.
Missed this workshop? We’re already planning the next one! DM us ‘BACKBONE’ to be added to the priority list.
