Waterloo Park's relationship with the Kings Trust continues to literally flourish!
A group of young people from the Kings Trusts' Volunteering in the Community initiative visited Waterloo Park along with their team leaders Jon and Hayley.
The group gave Waterloo's garden a beautiful makeover, working tirelessly inside and out. The group, arranged an inside activity, pairing up with a person who attends the service, creating flower baskets. Outside the group painted, cleaned, weeded, planted and much more - our garden is transformed!
Everyone at Waterloo Park can't thank them enough for the gorgeous garden they handed over to us. This amazing intergenerational programme warms our hearts every time. We look forward to them visiting us again very soon.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK
Our award winning performing arts centre, New Centre Stage performed an original mental health awareness production titled "Labels".

Using drama and powerful storytelling, Labels explored how mental health can often be shaped, judged, and “labelled” by the experiences and situations we face throughout life. The performance highlighted how everyday pressures, personal struggles, bullying and social expectations can contribute to a decline in mental wellbeing.

Our aim is to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and encourage open conversations around mental health. We believe that if we can inspire people to speak more openly, listen more compassionately, and support one another without judgement, then we have achieved our purpose.

The performance was delivered to some individuals who attend New Directions and the management team. It received incredibly positive feedback for its honesty, impact, and relevance.

We would now love the opportunity to offer Labels, more widely as part of Mental Health Awareness training across the company and throughout Sefton services, helping to continue important conversations around wellbeing, understanding, and compassion.

Our fantastic Garden Centre, New Leaf is holding their Summer Fayre on Saturday 6 June from 11.00am - 3.00pm.
Based on Rotten Row, Southport next door to the Southport Flower Show, New Leaf is part of our wonderful North Hub living well day service for adults. New Leaf is attended by a group of creative adults who are living with physical or learning challenges. Together they grow many types of seasonal plants and shrubs and make unique indoor and outdoor crafts and garden items. Everything they grow and create is for sale and open to the public.

Shared Lives Forum members, our experts with lived experience met today for lunch.
The Forum got together for the afternoon, generating meaningful engagement and co production with Hazel and Charlie. Lunch and cakes and biscuits went down a treat with plentiful supplies of juice and tea and coffee by Lesley to keep those creative juices flowing !
Everyone involved participated fully with their views and ideas for
1. Shared Lives social events for 2026
2. Training and awareness raising they feel that they would benefit from.
3. What new people coming in to Shared Lives would benefit from in terms of support and information with a view to co producing a welcome pack.
All the information was gathered and added to a visual plan which will be displayed in the meeting room for all to see and an action plan will be developed and put in place.
Watch this space for the visual when Hazel manages to put it up, hopefully this week !

Hate Crime Training
Paul McCann, Community Safety and Engagement Officer with Sefton Council delivered Hate Crime Training in March to members of our Shared Lives and South Hub's Drama Group - New Centre Stage.
Paul spoke about what Hate Crime is and how it affects individuals and those groups of people who can be targeted because of their race, religion, colour, gender, disability or diversity.
Some members of the group bravely shared their own personal stories.
As a result of this session a discussion developed on how New Centre Stage and people in Shared Lives can get involved in creating videos of real lived experiences to share with their peers as well as being actively involved in Hate Crime week in October.
Watch this space !!!!!!
Just to remind everyone Shared Lives is a third party reporting centre for anyone who feels they have been a victim of or have witnessed a hate crime.
Big thank you to New Centre Stage for letting us hold the session there and working with them 👏👏👏👏👏

Shared Lives Group get together for an afternoon of collaboration
Members of Shared Lives had a lovely afternoon enjoying lunch out together, chatting with friends and looking at ideas and ways to make new people joining the service to feel happy and settled, with all the information they need to make their own decisions and choices.
Great ideas were generated through natural conversations, shared experiences and a commitment to improving the Shared Lives service and experience for others who will live in a Shared Lives family.

Waterloo Park's Easter Bingo
What fun everyone had on 2 April at their Easter Bingo afternoon. The wonderful team and those who attend the service brought in gifts to raffle or contributed to pay for raffle prizes. Other members of New Directions came along to join in the fun and together raised £400. Attendees of Waterloo Park will be getting together soon to decide what they want to buy for their Centre.
Congratulations to everyone!
