Yesterday, we had a Happy Yoga members’ day retreat in Conwy, North Wales. 🥰 I’m going to let one of our members tell you about it in her own words:

“Just wanted to share my experience of the yoga mindfulness retreat with @⁨HappyYoga⁩Wales

This half-day retreat is so much more than just yoga. It’s all the different elements woven together that create such a soulful and mindful experience.

We started with a somatic yoga session, which really helped me feel more embodied. By the end, I could feel tension releasing from my hips and shoulders that I’d been carrying around from a busy week.

Then came strength training — after 50+ squats with the challenge increasing each round I could literally feel warmth and energy returning to my body, which by the end of a week is often running on empty.

After that, we enjoyed face massage and face yoga using Tropic skincare. And this was a really interesting moment for me. I give facials all the time, but I realised I don’t often give my own face that same gentle, mindful attention. Taking the time to warm my skin with my hands, soften tense areas and simply be present with myself felt surprisingly powerful. It brought a sense of peace and connection that I hadn’t realised I was missing.

We finished with a piece of dark chocolate from Paula, which I savoured slowly and mindfully. It genuinely felt like the most delicious thing in the world in that moment. We also received lovely goodie bags, which was a beautiful bonus.

So thank you, Paula, for creating such a nurturing experience and for reminding me how much can change when we bring gentle attention back to our bodies.“

Thank you, for your words, the photos (I forgot to take any!) and for being part of this beautiful gang! ☺️🙏🏼✨

A full life ≠ a busy life

Costa Rica reminded me of that.

My days were full – early mornings, Spanish chats, volunteering, beaches, volcano hikes…

But it never felt rushed. Just simple. Spacious.

Do you ever notice how easy it is to slip into “busy mode” instead?

Filling every space in the calendar. Always onto the next thing. 🤪

I don’t want a busy life.
I want a full one.

More space. Less rush.

As they say in Costa Rica: Pura Vida.

How about you? 🤔

What this is really about 👇

At the centre of everything I teach is one theme:

self-awareness through movement 🧘

When you can notice what’s happening internally, you have more choice in how you respond externally.

Movement, breath, and simple awareness practices help create enough space for that to happen.

Yoga is one way of doing this.

Laughter, whether spontaneous or deliberate, often helps more than expected. 😃

The aim isn’t to become endlessly calm.

It’s to become:

• more aware
• more resourced
• better able to shift out of activated states
• and less at the mercy of your thoughts, inbox, or overthinking patterns

What a week! 🤩🧘🐵🐶🦖

Yesterday was the second members’ retreat - a chance for members who practice at home alone or with me on Zoom to get together for a morning of yoga, somatics, relaxation and delicious nibbles followed by steamy sauna and dip in the sea! 🥶

I also topped up my oxytocin levels with a whole heap of animal-love! 🥰

First lemur cuddles at and then some serious puppy love at ! 🐕🐶

Some of my wonderful subscribers have already noticed there was no newsletter yesterday – thanks for checking in! ☺️🙏🏼 All is well, I just decided to practice what I teach by taking the evening off after a jam-packed week. Normal service will resume shortly so keep an eye on your inbox! 👀

A couple of months ago, I finally invested in a course by that I’d been wanting to do for such a long time.

It was worth every penny. In fact, it’s fair to say that the last four weeks studying, sharing and learning with Niamh Daly and my fellow yoga teachers has been absolutely priceless.

The course is called Yoga for Menopause. But, as we discussed during one of our Zoom sessions, it could be called ‘Yoga for People’!

I’ve learnt so much from brain health, CBT and eye tracking to osteoporosis, fascia and deepening my knowledge of somatics.

Niamh’s curious and playful approach to teaching & learning about the body is so aligned with my own. I could listen to this woman share hard facts alongside her own musings all day!

Today in our last live session together, we completed our practical assessments - taking part in classes designed to support women during their menopause transition.

I’ve still got some written assessments to complete over the next few weeks. Beyond that, in all honesty, I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this new-found knowledge. Perhaps I’ll revamp my existing Menopause Wellness workshops or maybe create something completely new. 🤔

If you’re a woman in mid-life tell me what kind of offering you’d like (workshops, regular classes, one-to-one sessions, retreats). Feel free to DM or send me a message through the website (HappyYogaWales.com).

While you’re there, make sure you subscribe to the newsletter to get details of any upcoming projects.

Have a great rest of your weekend, folks. I’m off to write this week’s newsletter which (inspired by our course) is all about pleasure!

I really took my time to work through this 100-hour Somatic Healing course led by the wonderful 🙏🏼✨

Having worked with movement and dance for over 25 years, I’ve always considered myself to be aware of my physical body. To be honest, sometimes HYPERaware when it came to injuries and imbalances! 🫣

But, learning the theory behind somatic healing and practising somatic techniques has taken my me from ‘awareness’ 🧐 to ‘embodiment’. ✨

Over the last few months, I’ve subtly introduced elements of somatics into our yoga classes. Have you noticed? 😉

If you’re interested in finding out more make sure you subscribe to the newsletter where I’ll be introducing somatic practices (and why you might like to try them) over the next few weeks.

Hello 👋🏼 if you’re new here (or you forgot why you followed me) 😘

I’m Paula. I teach yoga, movement and mindfulness for people with busy minds, tired bodies and zero interest in perfection. 😝

🌟 A little heads-up about how I use social media:

balance for me doesn’t include spending loads of time here.

I’m not anti-social media — I’m just intentional about where my energy goes. 💫

Most of my teaching, sharing and rambling happens in my weekly newsletter, not on Instagram.

That’s where I talk honestly about movement, rest, stress, self-kindness, running a small business, and how I try (and often fail) to practise what I teach. ⚖️✨

It’s also where I share what’s happening inside my Happy Yoga Online Membership — a growing library of on-demand classes for real life, real bodies and real humans, plus the pop-up classes, workshops and retreats for anyone who wants to join the fun. 🐶🙏🏼🎉

If you like things thoughtful, practical and a bit playful (with zero “good vibes only” energy), the newsletter is probably your place.

👉 Subscribe at HappyYogaWales.com

And if you’re already there — thank you. You’re very much my kind of people. 😘
