PCOS to PMOS: What You Need to Know 💜

🩺 An important change designed to support diagnosis and treatment.

PCOS (Polycystic O***y Syndrome) is now being renamed PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — following an international consensus led by the International PCOS Network alongside leading clinical, academic, and patient organisations.

The change aims to better reflect the true nature of the condition, which affects far more than just the ovaries.

For many women, PMOS can involve a combination of hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive symptoms, including:

• Irregular periods
• Acne or excess hair growth
• Weight changes or difficulty losing weight
• Fatigue
• Fertility challenges
• Insulin resistance
• Mood changes

The previous name, PCOS, was considered misleading, as not all women with the condition have ovarian cysts.

The updated name aims to:
✔️ Improve understanding of the condition
✔️ Support earlier and more accurate diagnosis
✔️ Reflect the wider hormonal and metabolic impact
✔️ Reduce stigma and confusion surrounding the condition
✔️ Support more personalised treatment approaches

Your experience could help shape the future of women's health. If you're a woman aged 18–45, please support this important research into Early Menopause and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) by completing the short survey below and sharing with others who may be eligible.

🛑 Please help us with our research as we develop a tool for predicting Early Menopause (EM) / Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)

✅POI is when your ovaries stop working before age 40 years, and EM is when menopause happens between ages 40-44 years.

✅POI and EM affect up to 16% of women, with impacts on fertility and physical and psychological health.

Despite identified risk factors, there is currently no reliable way to predict.

So, if you are a woman 18-45 take this short survey: https://bit.ly/4ac59Pl - all women can participate.
Pls share our post🙏

Shaping the future of women’s health 🌍

The latest International Menopause Society (IMS) Recommendations and Key Messages on Women’s Midlife Health and Menopause are now published - bringing together a rigorous systematic review and the expertise of 38 international authors.

These evidence-based guidelines span 30 key areas, including lifestyle, vasomotor symptoms, cardiometabolic and bone health, cancer, dementia, sexual wellbeing, and more, offering a comprehensive blueprint for managing midlife health with the most up-to-date evidence.

Their aim is clear: to support better clinical care, inform policy, and empower women with the knowledge needed to make confident health decisions.

We’re especially proud that Hormone Health Founder and Director and Immediate Past President, IMS, Prof Nick Panay, served as lead author on this global effort.

As Prof Panay stated:

"What has been delivered by an exceptional international team is a clear, shared menopause agenda that provides direction for clinical practice, policy, and research worldwide. It calls for improved access to balanced, evidence-based information; stronger policy support; enhanced education for healthcare professionals; responsible media engagement; and continued research to expand safe, effective, and affordable treatment options globally."

April is IBS Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on a condition that affects millions, yet is still widely misunderstood and often dismissed.

IBS isn’t just a digestive issue. For many women, symptoms are closely linked to hormonal changes throughout life, especially during midlife, alongside stress and the gut-brain connection. This can make symptoms unpredictable, frustrating, and difficult to manage without the right support.

At Hormone Health, we take a personalised, holistic approach. Our Nutritional Health Specialists, Nigel Denby (Registered Dietitian) and Antonia de Gier (Registered Nutritional Therapist), work closely with our clinical team to help you better understand your symptoms and build sustainable, evidence-based strategies for long-term gut health.

If you’ve ever felt confused by your symptoms or unheard, you’re not alone and the right support can make a real difference.
