These runes occurred in this pattern ‘by chance’
As did me cleaning my altar space and finding the Kali message card on the floor nearby: endings and blessings
Messages are everywhere
Often unseen, they’re like the Hansel & Gretal bread pieces! Always out in front of us, sometimes disappearing as we move past the moment, but new ones instantaneously replace them

The September cohort just did their mock exams! It’s always scary, but always enlightening - a bit like the first time you attend a yoga sesh: you’re not sure what to expect but somehow it always teaches you about yourself.

That’s what teaching others yoga is like: yes you’re teaching, you’re holding the space, but you’re also deepening your own understanding of YOU and, of course, yoga.

My 200hr course trains you to teach. Not just to sequence or plan, or correct or align, but the pedagogy: HOW do you teach? We look at classical yoga from the sutras & pradipika texts and we weave spirituality through it all via the upanishads. There’s no short cuts. This is a year long process. This is a LIFE long dedication, so why rush it?!

If you’d told me three years ago I’d be back chaturangaring FOR FUN I’d have wept and said ‘I hope so’

I slipped a disc in my lumbar spine brought on by intense inflammation in my body, caused by grief, stress and shock. I’d just lost my dad, a close friend had abandoned me in my darkest hour and life was….rough. My body reflected that.

With time, with love and care, with persistence, my strength has returned. Whatever you’re going through: it won’t last forever. However much pain you’re feeling: it will dull down. Whatever you feel you can’t do right now: you will again one day.

Did you know, before you get ON a mat in yoga, you’re encouraged to do some stuff OFF the mat that make you yogic?

Morality, values, altruism: all are linked to the Yamas in yoga, or ‘restraints’. Things like being nice, not lying, avoiding greed and overindulgence, all these things are the practise of yoga.

Pretty simple, right?!

Truth is, these are probably the hardest parts of yoga. Can you adhere to truthfulness when your boss wants you to stay late but you’d rather get out in the sun?
Can you be kind to the driver who yelled at you for going ‘too slow’ off the lights?
Are you able to throw away all those ‘really special’ ornaments you have and clear space?
When someone expresses the fact they find your partner attractive, can you appreciate their comment or does it make you jealous?

Yoga is the art of being a good human! It takes practise. It takes being mindful. It’s easy to take it off the mat, because that’s where it starts….
