Taking Diabetic Eye Screening to the next level with OCT technology. 🔬

During some screening appointments, we use an OCT camera to get a deeper look at your eye health. Instead of just taking a flat picture of the back of your eye, the OCT scanner creates a high-resolution, 3D map of your retinal layers.

Why is this important for diabetic patients?

Deeper Vision: It visualises layers standard cameras can't see.

Early Detection: It helps spot the earliest signs of diabetic macular oedema (fluid in the retina).

Precision: It allows for highly accurate monitoring of your eye health over time.

The scan is completely non-invasive, quick, and painless. It’s a vital tool in helping us protect your vision!

Learning Disability Week takes place from Monday 15 to Sunday 21 June 2026

This Learning Disability Week, the theme is "Do You See Me?"—a powerful reminder to look past a diagnosis, value everyone as an individual, and ensure no one is left invisible when it comes to their healthcare.

Truly "seeing" someone means understanding and respecting their unique needs. For individuals with learning disabilities, attending routine health checks like diabetic eye screening can sometimes feel overwhelming. We want to change that.

Our Diabetic Eye Screening programme is fully adaptable, offering a range of reasonable adjustments to ensure every appointment is safe, accessible, and completely stress-free:

More Time: We can book longer appointment slots so you never feel rushed.
Carer Support: Your carer, support worker, or a family member is always welcome to stay with you throughout the entire process.

Familiarisation Visits: If the unknown causes anxiety, you can arrange to visit the clinic beforehand to see the environment and meet our friendly team.

A Calm Environment: We can offer quiet waiting areas or schedule appointments during less busy times of the day.

Your sight is precious, and your comfort is our priority. When you receive your invitation, simply let our team know what adjustments would help make your visit easier. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Preparing for your Diabetic Eye Screening? We’ve got you covered! 📋👓

A routine screening is vital for managing diabetes, and a little preparation makes your visit smooth and stress-free. We’ve designed this simple patient checklist so you don’t forget the essentials.

We strongly emphasize the need for a designated driver, as vision will be significantly impaired by dilating eye drops for up to six hours post-appointment.
