WAIT… IS THAT BSL? 👀🌍

Not all sign languages are the same but that doesn’t mean they can’t have similarities!

In this reel, we’re looking at 3 signs from BSL alongside signs from other sign languages that you might also spot being used here in the UK 👐

So… did you recognise any of them?

Have you ever picked up a sign from another sign language? Let us know 👇

What’s your favourite BSL sign? 🫶🏻

We went around the office to ask the team theirs… and got some very… interesting answers 😂
Most had an actual favourite sign.

One person chose… 🤷‍♂️
Apparently shrugging is his favourite. We’re not sure that counts 🤣

What’s your favourite BSL sign?

And yes, we’ll accept shrugging as an answer… reluctantly 💙

Why sign language rights matter 💙

For Deaf people, access to sign language isn’t simply about communication; it’s about being able to learn, participate, make choices and have your voice heard.
From education and healthcare to employment, public services and everyday life, language access can make the difference between being included and being left out.

Sign language isn’t a barrier to inclusion. Access to it is part of inclusion.

Save this post, share it with someone who needs to hear it, and help keep the conversation going!

Hearing Culture 🆚 Deaf Culture

Sometimes the way we communicate can look completely different and that’s what makes it so interesting!

👉 A goodbye that lasts at least 45 minutes? Yep.
👉 Pointing? Completely normal.
👉 Being direct? We said what we said.

Different doesn’t mean wrong, it’s just a different way of communicating and connecting 💙

Think you know BSL? Think again! 🤘

There are a lot of misconceptions about British Sign Language, from thinking it’s just English on the hands, to assuming every Deaf person uses it.

So, let’s set the record straight 👇

BSL is a complete language, with its own grammar, structure and regional variations. And just like spoken languages, it takes time and practice to learn.

💙 Let’s learn. Let’s respect. Let’s communicate.
