We had a meaningful nutrition session with Streams Community Church, with great engagement and talanoa about the sugar hidden in our food, and understanding food labels. It was encouraging to see participants reflect on their health and feel empowered to make positive changes for themselves and their families.

Vinaka vakalevu Streams Community Church for trusting us to connect and share with your community 💪 💖

Today is Gout Awareness Day.

If you have gout, you also have a higher risk of some heart conditions, including heart attack and strokes.

The good news is, these simple steps can help you manage your gout and your heart health.

Maintain a healthy weight by focusing on eating lots of vegetables and fruit, with small portions of animal proteins.

Aim for at least five servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit each day, plenty of wholegrains and low-fat dairy, and water as your main drink.

Limit:
red and organ meats
shellfish
sugary drinks
and alcohol – especially beer and spirits, which can raise uric acid and should be avoided during gout attacks.

So join me in following these simple steps to show some love for your heart and your joints! 💕

Another meaningful cultural workshop delivered by our Pacific Heartbeat team to the second group of dietetic students from the University of Auckland - Waipapa Taumata Rau.

Together, we unpacked the rich Pasifika history of our traditional whole food island diets, how our ancestors thrived living from the land and sea through nourishment grounded in culture, connection, and sustainability. We also explored the impact of changing times, foreign influence, and the rise of processed foods across the Pacific. These shifts tell an important story of where we once were, the disruption to our traditional ways of eating, and the health challenges many of our communities face today.

Honouring our past is part of shaping a healthier future for Pasifika generations to come.

Fa’afetai tai lava, Kam rabwa to Sue and the UoA students for your willingness to continue to support our Pasifika communities. 💖
