Carpenter explains that early childhood sexual abuse disrupts a boy's developing sexuality, leading to deep, lasting confusion regarding identity, orientation, and self-worth. The trauma forces the brain to internalize the abuse, creating a distorted sexual template that leaves survivors struggling with their sense of masculinity, often accompanied by intense self-hatred.
