Have you ever noticed a child having a BIG emotional reaction to what seems like a small mistake, correction, or disappointment?

For some individuals with ADHD, these moments may be connected to Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)—an intense emotional response to perceived criticism, rejection, or failure.

RSD can impact confidence, participation, friendships, and willingness to try new things. What may look like overreacting on the outside can actually reflect very real emotional pain on the inside.

As therapists, parents, and educators, we can help by:
💙 Validating feelings without judgment
💙 Focusing on strengths and successes
💙 Teaching emotional regulation strategies
💙 Encouraging resilience and a growth mindset

Understanding the “why” behind big emotions helps children feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT ADHD! 🧠✨

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in childhood, but it’s often misunderstood. ADHD is so much more than being “hyper” or having trouble paying attention.

Children with ADHD may experience challenges with:
🔹 Attention and focus
🔹 Impulse control
🔹 Emotional regulation
🔹 Organization and planning
🔹 Hyperactivity and restlessness

The good news? With the right support, strategies, and understanding, children with ADHD can thrive and reach their full potential.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be breaking down common ADHD topics, including:
✔️ Signs and symptoms
✔️ ADHD in girls
✔️ Executive functioning
✔️ Emotional regulation
✔️ Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
✔️ School and home strategies
✔️ Therapy approaches and supports

Follow along as we learn more about ADHD together in the coming weeks and celebrate the unique strengths of neurodiverse children!

If your child struggles with any of the challenges listed above, we’re here to help at Strive to Thrive. Contact us today to schedule an evaluation!

Balancing, reaching, throwing… all while standing on a BOSU ball 👏⚖️

This activity challenges:
✨ Core strength
✨ Dynamic balance
✨ Coordination
✨ Motor planning
✨ Postural control

Picking up objects from below while maintaining balance can be especially tricky because the body naturally wants to fall forward. With therapist cueing and repetition, kids learn how to shift weight safely, engage their core, and improve body awareness during movement-based tasks 💪

Happy Speech-Language Pathologist Day to the incredible professionals who help children find their voices, build confidence, and connect with the world around them. We especially love our SLPs— Anne, Lauren, Maelah, & Melanie!

From first words to stronger communication skills, your impact reaches far beyond the therapy room. Thank you for the patience, compassion, creativity, and dedication you bring to every child and family you support each day.

Today we celebrate YOU and the life-changing work you do. 🗣️✨

For children with a toe-out gait, activities like the beam encourage improved foot positioning while keeping movement fun and engaging. Adding bubbles helps increase motivation, attention, breathing control, and sensory regulation — because kids learn best through play. 💙

Apraxia Awareness 🌈

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is more than “late talking.” It’s a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech.

Children with apraxia know what they want to say — their brains just have trouble sending the message to the muscles used for speaking.

✨ With early support, consistent practice, and understanding, children with apraxia can make incredible progress.
✨ Every voice deserves the chance to be heard.

This Apraxia Awareness month, let’s spread understanding, encourage inclusion, and celebrate every step forward — no matter how small. 💙
