Meet one of our Speech Language Pathologists at Strive to Thrive Therapy, Lauren!

Lauren earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Elmhurst University. She has experience working with children and young adults in both clinic and school settings, with a special interest in childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), speech sound disorders, language, AAC, and social communication.

Lauren has pursued advanced training in CAS, including DTTC, PROMPT, and Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders, and is a professionally selected member of the Apraxia Kids Directory.

Her therapy is play-based, relationship-centered, and individualized. Lauren believes that building a meaningful connection with each client and partnering with families creates the foundation for successful communication.

Outside of therapy, Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, enjoying nature, and playing pickleball! 🏓🌿

🎥 Childhood Apraxia of Speech Expert Series | Video 2: Hierarchy of Learning

Learning speech motor plans isn’t one-size-fits-all. The hierarchy of learning helps us adjust the level of support and complexity based on what the child needs in that moment.

A child may initially need:
✨ Words slowed down
✨ Increased or exaggerated models
✨ More repetition and practice
✨ Greater clinician support

As the child becomes more successful, we begin looking for readiness for variability—helping them move beyond one practiced production toward accurate, consistent, and reliable motor plans across different contexts.

➡️ As learning increases, support decreases.

The goal isn’t simply to get a word right once—it’s to help the child develop a motor plan they can access accurately, consistently, and reliably.
