Sun & Moon Sober Living Live & Thrive in Sobriety

What often gets missed in the discourse around nervous system regulation is that dysregulation is not a problem to be controlled or fixed.

As Robyn .ecology explains in this clip, “it’s an intelligent response of the body to go into stress responses… it’s actually protective.”

I love how she uses the phrase nervous system tending to encourage a more compassionate lens to understand ourselves and work with our system rather than fighting against it.

This clip is from Ep 126 of the Sun & Moon Sober Living Podcast, where we discuss:

✨ Ecosomatics
✨ The Innate Ecology Framework
✨ Interoceptive Awareness
✨ Cultivating kinship with nature
✨ The supports of nature
✨ Nervous system tending
✨ Post-traumatic growth & resilience

Robyn is an Ecosomatic Practitioner and author with a background in Environmental Studies, Social Work, Somatics, and Forest Therapy.

After her experiences integrating nature connection into her work as a therapist and crisis counsellor in the domestic violence and addictions sectors, Robyn created the Innate Ecology Ecosomatics Framework to guide others into somatic nature connection practice.

Robyn has spent thousands of hours in direct communion with wilderness across Europe and North America. She is also a mother of three, and cancer survivor.

I hope you enjoy this conversation!

Who’s going to be at the event in Colorado Springs next weekend? I would love to connect! 🤍

As many of you know, a body-based approach to recovery was what ultimately freed me from addiction after years of struggling with my drinking and drug use.

I love this quote by Viktor Frankl because it speaks to how when we slow down and access the Sacred Pause through mindfulness practice, we can reclaim agency over our lives.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” -Viktor Frankl

Let me explain…

Substances are a fast, powerful way to shift the state of your nervous system.

If we learn that every time we feel anxious or overwhelmed, we can pour a drink to immediately take the edge off, that pathway gets encoded in our brain.

Feel anxious > have a drink > relief

The more that pattern is repeated, the harder it can feel to choose differently.

But here’s the thing, you are not stuck.

Our brains are not static, they are always learning and adapting, meaning we can create new pathways to manage stress and overwhelm without alcohol.

It’s so easy to fall into a shame spiral after struggling to break a habit, but believe me when I say, meeting yourself with compassionate awareness is when real lasting change becomes possible.

Zoom out and notice the pattern, without judgment. Get curious.

What problem is your behavior solving?
What are new strategies you can put into place?

As always, DM if you need support! Recovery is possible and you are worth it.

Eliminating alcohol is only the tip of the iceberg.

When we engage in the deeper work of recovery, we realize by giving up one thing, we have so much more to gain.

What else would you add to this list?

Join us for Wild Magic in Madeira, an alcohol-free experience that will invite you to rediscover the natural joys in life.

In our fast-paced modern world, it’s easy to forget the wonder of being alive.

We rush from task to task, move through our days on autopilot, and slowly drift from the spark… the awe, the quiet thrum of life force energy just beneath the surface.

Wild Magic in Madeira is an invitation to remember.

Set in a landscape where nature makes awe unavoidable, this retreat is designed to help you slow down, reconnect to presence, and reawaken your sense of wonder - through movement, adventure, ceremony, and community.

This is not about fixing yourself or escaping your life.
It’s about creating space to feel inspired, curious, joyful, and fully alive again.

If you’re craving beauty that moves you, experiences that reconnect you to your body and the natural world, and a week that feels both grounding and expansive, we’d love to welcome you.

Happy New Year! ✨ When I crawled in bed at 9pm on NYE last night, just as my former self would have been getting her night started, I felt such a deep sense of gratitude for my recovery.

There was a time in early sobriety where missing out on NYE celebrations would have brought up a lot of grief and sadness. I desperately longed for the version of me that could go out and party without turning her life into a living hell. A Sober New Years didn’t feel empowering in the beginning, it felt like a shameful reminder of how badly I messed up.

I realize now that I needed to experience all of the grief and loss that came along with letting go of substances so I could make space for an entirely new life to begin, a life and level of joy and fulfillment I never could have dreamed of back then.

I woke up today on Jan 1 hangover free, met one of my best hiking buddies in Rocky Mountain National Park and started 2026 on an incredible high note. After too many Jan 1sts spent hungover in bed, I will never take this feeling for granted.

So wherever you’re at in your sobriety, I just want you to know that you’re not alone and if you’re having a hard time, it does get better.

Recovery is possible and you are worth it. ♥️
