A standard reference range is usually built from the middle ninety-five percent of people who happened to get tested at that lab. That's a description of who walked through the door β€” not of who feels good.

So "normal" tells you that you probably don't have an acute disease. It does not tell you your body has what it needs.

The markers I want that often aren't run: free T3 and thyroid antibodies, not just TSH.

Fasting insulin alongside glucose β€” insulin can be elevated for a decade before glucose moves. Full iron studies including ferritin, because you can have normal hemoglobin with ferritin low enough to explain profound exhaustion. Magnesium RBC rather than serum.

Your doctor wasn't careless. Screening for disease and optimizing function are two different jobs using different tools.

Cereal. Toast. Granola bars. Flavored yogurt. Juice. Almost every default breakfast is carbohydrate with a protein garnish.

That produces a fast rise in blood sugar, a matching insulin response, and a dip a couple of hours later. The dip is where the trouble lives β€” the "I'm starving" at 10 a.m., the fidgeting, the flat mood before lunch, the crash in the pickup line.

Flip the anchor. Protein first, then fat and fiber, and let the carbohydrate come along
rather than lead. Same amount of time. Very different afternoon.

Food isn't a treatment for attention or behavior β€” I'd never frame it that way. But blood sugar is a real input into how any brain performs, and it's one of the few you can adjust

It tells you what you weigh. It cannot tell you what changed.

An InBody scan takes a few minutes and shows lean muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat, and hydration status β€” the numbers that actually explain what's happening.

Why it matters: two people can lose the same fifteen pounds. One kept their muscle. One didn't. Six months later they are in profoundly different metabolic positions, and the scale reported the same result for both.

This is especially important during any weight loss phase, including a medically supervised one. Muscle is metabolically expensive tissue. Losing it lowers your rate and makes maintaining harder later.

We track it so you're not flying blind.

Both said nearly the same sentence: exhausted, bloated most afternoons, gaining weight I can't explain.

For one, the story was iron. Ferritin in the single digits, and heavy cycles she'd been told were normal her whole life. Her bloating turned out to be secondary β€” which was also why the iron she'd tried on her own hadn't worked.

For the other, it was digestion. Testing showed a dysbiosis pattern and low pancreatic elastase β€” she wasn't breaking food down well regardless of how nutritious it was. Her fatigue was never an iron problem.

Hand either woman the other's protocol and you accomplish nothing but cost.

That's the whole case for personalization. Symptoms tell you where to look. They don't tell you what to do.

Outdoor time. Genuinely.

Daily time outside in natural light is one of the most consistently supportive habits for developing eyes, and it happens to do something else useful β€” morning light anchors the circadian rhythm that determines how well everyone in the house sleeps tonight.

On the nutrition side, the nutrients that support vision are the ones people already know and under-eat: colorful vegetables for lutein and zeaxanthin, omega-3 fats, vitamin A from real food sources, and zinc.

And the screen conversation without the guilt: it's less about total hours and more about breaks and distance. Look at something far away, regularly. Get outside between blocks.
None of this replaces a real eye exam. Schedule that too.

Share this with a parent heading into the school year.

Right now your level is at its annual peak.

That's exactly what makes this the useful time to look β€” because if it's low in August, it will be lower in January.

Vitamin D isn't just a bone nutrient. It's involved in immune regulation, mood, and inflammatory signaling, which is why it tends to show up in the conversation right when the school year starts and everyone begins passing things around.

And the reason I want it tested rather than guessed: the right amount to take varies enormously between people. Guessing high isn't harmless, and guessing low wastes months.

Most cabinets I see weren't designed. They accumulated. A podcast episode in March. A friend's recommendation in June. Something for sleep after a bad week in October.

Every purchase was reasonable on its own. Together, they overlap, some compete for absorption, several are aimed at problems you may not have, and the total spend is often more than a full lab panel would have cost.

A built protocol is almost always smaller than a collected one. Fewer products, each with a defined job β€” and a defined endpoint. A supplement should come off the list when its work is done.

If you need help choosing the right supplements, book a consultation to receive a customized supplement protocol based on your lab results and health goals.
