Testosterone is still one of the most misunderstood parts of women’s hormone care.

There’s still a lot of confusion around testosterone for women in perimenopause and menopause, even as more women are asking about it.

The FDA’s recent meeting did not approve a new treatment or change care overnight.

If you’re already using testosterone, this update does not mean your treatment suddenly needs to change. If you’re considering testosterone, ask why it’s being recommended, what you’re hoping to improve, and how your response will be monitored.

More women are asking about testosterone, and that’s a good thing.

Testosterone is part of women’s hormone health too. For some women, low levels can be part of a broader picture involving sexual health, energy, strength, recovery, mood and overall well-being.

What makes the recent FDA conversation around testosterone in women, important is not that testosterone “isn’t for women.” It’s that women still don’t have a testosterone product specifically developed and FDA-approved for them in the U.S., even though clinicians may prescribe testosterone off-label when appropriate.

That means dosing, monitoring, symptoms and goals all need to be individualized.

If testosterone is being considered for you, ask why it’s being recommended, what your provider is hoping it will help with, and how your response will be monitored.

At Aligned Modern Health, our providers look at your symptoms, goals and long-term health to help determine the right approach for you.

Fatigue, brain fog and feeling “off” can have more than one cause.

During the menopause transition, changes in sleep, mood and cognition can all overlap. In fact, 40% to 60% of midlife women report cognitive symptoms like forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating.

That’s why our providers look at symptoms alongside labs, health history and lifestyle rather than assuming one symptom has one cause. This is what root-cause care looks like.

If several things have changed at once, that’s worth bringing to your provider.

Women are asking some very practical questions about bone health:
What does osteopenia actually mean?
Can bone density improve?
When should I get a DXA scan?
And what can I do now to protect my bones?

These questions matter for everyone. Menopause can accelerate bone loss for women, while men also experience age-related bone loss and osteoporosis risk.

About 1 in 2 women and up to 1 in 4 men over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis in their lifetime.

If you’re in your 40s, 50s or beyond and haven’t talked about bone health recently, ask your provider whether your risk factors or menopause stage make a DXA scan worth discussing.

Menopause care is about more than symptom relief. The transition is also a good time to take another look at the health markers that matter for the years ahead.

A May 2026 analysis of national U.S. health data found that perimenopausal women had about twice the odds of a low cardiovascular health score compared with women who still had regular cycles, even after accounting for age. Cholesterol and blood sugar were a big part of that gap.

Bone changes start early, too. In a long-running study of women through the menopause transition, bone loss sped up about a year before the final period and continued for about two years after. It isn't something you can feel, which makes it easy to miss.

Four areas worth revisiting with your provider:
1. Cholesterol and cardiovascular risk
2. Bone density
3. Blood sugar and metabolic health
4. Sleep and symptoms

What was normal for you five years ago may not tell the whole story today.

Click through for what to ask about in each area, and save this for your next visit.

Before fall gets busy, Kaitlyn Hall, DNP, FNP-BC, shares the three things she encourages all of her patients to focus on for immune health.

1. Sleep. It’s usually the first thing to get sacrificed, but consistent, quality sleep is the foundation for healthy immune function.
2. Nutrition. Plenty of whole foods, protein, fruits and vegetables, and attention to nutrients that support immune health like vitamin D and vitamin C.
3. Stress and movement. Regular exercise and getting outside when you can help regulate stress.

Fall can also be a good time to ask your provider whether vitamin D testing makes sense for you, especially if it’s been a while.

Small daily habits make a big difference. Save this one for when the schedule gets full.
