Andy doesn’t speak (many) words.

Baymax doesn’t make a sound.

And Nadia runs the jeopardy whole round like it’s just another Tuesday.

Andy is nonverbal. Nadia is his Mentor — and she’s also the first Mentor at Avant with a service dog. Baymax stayed in his spot the entire time. Calm. Present. Unbothered.

𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞.

Nadia didn’t modify the Jeopardy game. Didn’t pull Andy aside for a “simplified version.” She walked in with her whole self — service dog included — read the room, and found the door that was already there. Andy knew his answers and was locked in!

Three different kinds of inclusion happening in one game of jeopardy. And none of it was planned. That’s just who we are.

🚨She Terminated Her Guardian 🚨

And… She Works Here… stay with me.

For decades, the system said she couldn’t make her own decisions. So she proved them WRONG.

She job hopped.
She lived in a community that held her back.
She didn’t have the RIGHT support.

Now….

She moved into her own single-family home.
She manages it independently.
She took her guardianship to court and won.
And….She works at Avant.

That framed document on her wall means she owns her own life now. 💪

At Avant, she’s not a client we’re helping.

She’s a Mentor building her confidence week after week.

She’s an advocate who knows exactly what it looks like to fight the system and win—and now she’s helping others do the same.

She went after the job she is passionate about. She saw people doing the self-work she did, and she wanted to be part of helping them get there.

That’s the Avant difference. We don’t manage people toward compliance. We don’t hold them in custodial hostage. We create the conditions where they can become advocates for themselves—and then for each other.
