Although we discuss consciousness in greater depth in the advanced BodyTalk course Principles of Consciousness (Mod 3), I think itโ€™s important at the very beginning of oneโ€™s journey with BodyTalkโ€”whether as a client or a practitionerโ€”to take the time to reflect upon what both of these statements are actually saying.

The word consciousness lends itself to a lot of confusion because it has so many different connotations. We hear people using Consciousness to mean awareness, thought, mindfulness, psychology, or even something associated with the functioning of the brain. But that doesn't really seem to be what these statements are pointing to.

The heart spends every moment sending blood to the rest of the body. โค๏ธ

But before that oxygen-rich blood travels very far, the heart has to nourish itself. It's like the airplane oxygen mask analogy.

The coronary arteries arise right at the base of the aorta, giving the heart muscle its own supply of oxygenated blood as systemic circulation begins. ๐Ÿซ€

The heart supports circulation, and circulation supports the heart.

I love the reciprocity in that.

And thereโ€™s another interesting detail: much of the blood flow to the heart muscleโ€”especially the left ventricleโ€”actually happens while the heart is relaxing between contractions (the diastole phase). So the heart nurtures and nourishes itself during periods of rest and relaxation. โœจ

It sounds like a simple question. But how much of what we call โ€œmeโ€ is tied to the identities weโ€™ve developed, the roles we play, the relationships we have, and the groups to which we belong?

๐Ÿ”น (๐Œ๐จ๐ ๐Ÿ—) ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฑ ๐ƒ๐ฒ๐ง๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐œ๐ฌ explores these questions through the concept of matrixesโ€”organized structures within the bodymind and within the groups and systems of which we are a part.

The BodyTalk Session Intensive is always such a fun class to teach. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I really enjoyed these past two days sharing what Iโ€™ve learned over the years with practitioners at different stages of their BodyTalk journey. Thereโ€™s something special about bringing together people with different levels of experience, different questions, and different perspectives. โœจ

It was also wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces and meet some new ones from Australia and New Zealand. ๐ŸŒ
