Not every voice problem has the same cause, and not every solution comes from over the counter.

While social media often promotes simple explanations involving gut health, inflammation, or supplements, hoarseness and voice loss are symptoms that can stem from many different underlying factors.

The key to effective treatment is not finding the latest wellness trend 👉 it's obtaining an accurate diagnosis.

If your voice symptoms persist for more than 2–3 weeks, seek evaluation from professionals who specialize in voice disorders. Your voice deserves evidence-based care, not guesswork.

Have you ever received conflicting advice about a voice problem online? Share your experience in the comments, or send us a DM if you're looking for a professional specializing in vocal health.

One of the greatest reminders from this year's Voice Symposium was that exceptional voice care is never a solo endeavor. It thrives through collaboration, bringing together clinicians, researchers, voice teachers, performers, and other voice professionals who share a commitment to helping individuals use their voices with confidence, freedom, and longevity.

At Sonnenberg Voice, we believe the best outcomes happen when care is individualized, team-based, and centered around the unique needs of each voice user. This week reinforced the importance of building connections across disciplines so we can better support singers, speakers, performers, and professional voice users at every stage of their journey.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. If you're a singer, voice teacher, performer, or voice professional looking to build a stronger support team, let's connect. Send us a DM or visit the link in bio!

As a speech language pathologist specializing in voice, I know how important collaboration is when supporting developing singers. Hearing from professionals like Dana Lentini reinforces why resources like the Voice Teacher Collaborative matter.

By connecting voice teachers with evidence-based expertise in vocal health and rehabilitation, we can help educators make informed decisions, support students with confidence, and better understand the relationship between vocal development, technique, and voice care.

Grateful to be part of a community that puts singers' well-being first. 🤍

What a wonderful week at the Voice Foundation Symposium in Philadelphia!

We were honored to share our work through presentations, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and learn from colleagues whose passion for voice continues to inspire us. Beyond the lecture halls, some of the most meaningful moments happened in the hallways - catching up with longtime friends, meeting new colleagues, exchanging ideas, and strengthening connections across our voice community.

From early morning coffee conversations to shared meals and late-day reflections, this week was a reminder that our field is built not only on science and artistry, but also on relationships. We leave energized, grateful, and even more connected to the incredible clinicians, researchers, teachers, and performers who share a mutual love for voice and singers.

Thank you to everyone who made this year's symposium such a memorable experience. Until next time! 🎤✨

As a voice SLP, I often hear reflux blamed for everything from hoarseness and throat clearing to vocal fatigue and loss of range. While reflux can certainly impact vocal function, it isn't always the root cause.

The truth is that vocal health is rarely explained by a single factor. That's why it's so important to look beyond assumptions and focus on patterns, context, and the bigger picture.

Understanding the difference between myth and medical reality helps singers and voice teachers make more informed decisions, and ultimately better support long-term vocal health.

💬 What vocal symptom do you hear blamed on reflux most often: throat clearing, hoarseness, vocal fatigue, or loss of range? Share in the comments!

It's been a busy season for many of you, including our clients. Whether it's a new audition for a program or role you've been waiting for, re-audition for an established position, performance, or even just the hard daily work that happens behind the scenes- these opportunities ask a lot of performers, not just vocally, but emotionally too. The preparation, vulnerability, excitement, and pressure behind the scenes often go unseen.

And for those who didn’t get the callback, role, placement, or outcome they hoped for 👉 your voice, artistry, and potential are not defined by one audition or performance moment.

Growth in singing is rarely linear. Its a lifetime of taking steps forward and then back. Sometimes the most important work happens in the moments that challenge our confidence the most.

At Sonnenberg Voice, we’re here to support singers through both the celebrations and the setbacks, helping voices stay healthy, resilient, and sustainable for the long run.

Wherever this season finds you, keep going. Your voice matters. 🤍

Singer-centered care goes beyond addressing symptoms alone. It considers the artistic, emotional, and functional impact vocal change can have on a singer’s life, and the importance of collaborative, compassionate support along the way.

We believe the strongest voice care happens when professionals work together with empathy, clear communication, and shared expertise at the center while respecting the singer's goals.

Acid reflux is often treated as the explanation for every vocal issue, but the reality is far more nuanced. For singers and voice teachers alike, understanding the difference between medical contributors, vocal load, and functional voice changes is essential to supporting long-term vocal health.

Swipe through for a grounded, evidence-informed perspective on reflux and the singing voice. And more information on how you, as voice teachers, can support your students as they question and seek to better understand how reflux may be affecting them vocally.
