PSA to energy healers out there! 📣

Can we please stop ruining our clients’ post-session buzz with our energetic assessments?!

I’ve seen it so many times and experienced it myself. The language we use matters! Most clients will ask something along the lines of “what did you notice?” after a session. Now, I’m not suggesting you lie. But I am suggesting you phrase things in a way that supports curiosity and growth rather than shame and doubt. Check these two examples out.

“Your heart was very stuck.”
“The energy in your heart felt noticeably different than other places in your body.”

Same feedback. Very different vibe. Which one would you rather receive?

Plus, so many people who ask for an assessment after a session are doing so because they’re used to looking outside themselves for answers or because they think we have some kind of magic that they don’t. So let’s stop feeding into that narrative and start redirecting them back toward themselves.

Ok? Ok!

Curious about Somatic Reiki? Here’s what actually happens in a session.

Clients get comfortable on the table or in a chair. I offer Reiki to help them settle in and anchor into ventral.

Then I guide clients through a somatic settling to help them connect with themselves and begin to notice their bodies.

We take time to identify and connect with resources that clients can come back to (things that feel good/neutral to notice).

Through client sharing and my tracking, we explore what comes up. This might sound like “I feel a pit in my stomach” from the client or “The energy feels different in your right arm. What’s happening there?” from me.

Using curiosity, imagery, small movements, sounding, and self-touch, we work with whatever arises (sensations, thoughts, emotions, memories, etc.).

We slow things down. Offer time and space for emotions to be felt, associations to be made, support to be felt, cycles to complete, and resources to emerge.

During the somatic work Reiki is flowing as a source of spiritual and nervous system support.

We finish the session with some “regular” Reiki to help clients rest, process, and integrate the work.

If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, visit our website to schedule a session. Virtual and in-person options available.

For all my southern New England/NY friends!

I’ll be back at the very soon to offer Reiki II for mental health professionals. This class includes 7 continuing ed credits for those who qualify.

Together, we will explore distance and emotional healing techniques, Reiki for animals, using Reiki to manifest goals, scanning methods that can be used to determine where Reiki is needed, and more. Students will receive another attunement, learn Reiki symbols, and have the opportunity to practice giving Reiki to others using their new symbols and techniques.

Throughout the training we will discuss how the content applies to the mental health profession. Upon completion of this course, participants will be certified Reiki II practitioners.

Hope to see you there!

Don’t mind me. I’ll be over here with my fingers up my nose so I can get as much healing energy into my sinuses as possible.

For my friends out there feeling defeated and depleted. For those of you who have tried it all. For the ones who have worked tirelessly to heal their past to improve their present. I see you.

Please remember that what you see on social is not the full picture. No one shows the messy stuff. The tough times. The one step forward and ten steps back moments.

It shows the “healed” healers, coaches, and influencers trying to make a living by selling you a quick fix or a guaranteed protocol for transformation.

And the reality is, healing takes time. And it’s so individual that there’s no way one approach could truly serve everyone. We all need something different. Something catered to our unique experiences and systems.

So the next time that reel or carousel or post has you thinking that healing is so out of reach, or that you’re the only one in the world still stuck, or that you must be “unfixable” because that 30-second hack did nothing for you - please pause and remember this.

Healing takes time and consistency and the proper support. It takes the right tools for you. It takes patience. It takes trying and struggling and learning and repetition. It’s a slow growth over time that we often can’t even see. And with proper expectations, the journey feels a whole lot easier.

From this knowing, I’ve created a new way to work with me that honors the rhythm of the healing journey. Visit the Healing Intensives page on our site to learn more.

Want to know what’s been showing up in sessions this week? Two things.

1. Hips (which don’t lie, ya know), and
2. “I’m here because I’ve tried everything else.”

Let’s talk about the second one for a minute. So many people find their way to my practice because they have tried what feels like everything else for their trauma or anxiety or chronic pain. Some find Reiki through internet searches, others through word of mouth. A lot through ChatGPT these days.

I’m always happy when someone discovers Reiki because I know how helpful it’s been for me and so many of my clients. AND I’m always clear about what the research-proven benefits and what real life client experiences tell us about how Reiki works.

So many clients have been let down by other providers and are exhausted by the run around with the physical and mental health systems of care. So many dead ends and disappointments.

I remind myself of what I CAN offer. Not a cure. Not a quick fix. But a space. An ear. An energy that softens the edges and settles the system. A place to feel and express and let the weight of it all be held by the table and an energy that’s bigger than us. And what an honor that is.

It may not be everything they need. But it’s something. And I’d much rather give that than more false hope and harm.

What’s showing up on your table this week? Let us know in the comments below.

What would it be like to come home to yourself? Is that a familiar feeling? Is it something you can imagine? Does it feel out of reach? If it does, you’re not alone.

We all deserve to feel at home within our bodies and minds. And yet, for so many different reasons, many of us don’t. This workshop is designed to give you tools that can support that journey back to yourself.

Join Ali, Somatic Educator (and beautiful human), for a workshop that will incorporate movement, breath, self-touch, and other practices to support you in feeling an embodied sense of safety and connection. All are welcome. Expect to be met where you are. đź’š

When Reiki people come together, something magical happens.

Differences melt away.

Suddenly it doesn’t matter where you’re from, what you look like, who you love, what you believe, how much money you make, or who you voted for.

All that matters is the shared love for this practice.

This common thread is enough to break through all the division. It’s enough to help us remember our connectedness. And that remembrance is exactly what the world needs right now.

In somatic work we track and watch the moment to moment changes unfold. Clients track internally and report what they notice. As practitioners we track using our internal senses (feeling into the somatic resonance) qnd our external senses. We look for changes in breathing, tension, skin coloration, posture, and more.

Of course, every body is different, and we can’t say that one particular change always means the same thing. For one person, a yawn can indicate that they’re becoming more present or regulated, and for another a yawn can be part of the dissociative process. Every single person is different.

And we know that there are certain changes that are quite common when moving out of a defensive state and into a state of ease and connection. When I hear about or notice these seven signs during a session I get curious.

1. Sighing or yawning
2. Release of physical tension
3. Temperature changes
4. Spontaneous deepening of the breath
5. Signs of healthy digestion (tummy noises, subtle movement of the viscera)
6. Thinking slows
7. Access to new/different emotions

When these are indeed a sign of settling, I encourage clients to take plenty of time to notice and savor, if they’re able.

Are there tell tale signs that you notice in yourself or your clients? Share yours in the comments!
