TrackTown Injuries: When is imaging needed?

Eugene is a runner’s paradise, but pushing your limits can sometimes lead to injury. How do you know when it’s time to seek imaging?

Acute Injuries: If you experience a sudden pop, intense pain, or inability to bear weight after a fall or awkward step, an X-ray is usually the first step to rule out a fracture.

Overuse Injuries: If you have lingering pain that doesn't improve with rest, ice, and time (like shin splints or suspected tendon tears), your doctor might order an MRI. MRIs are exceptional at evaluating soft tissues, ligaments, and cartilage damage that X-rays can't see!
