FREE Diabetes Education Events — Know Your Risk. Take Control

She had no pain. No discharge. No unusual changes during breast self-exams. Nothing to suggest anything was wrong.

But on February 23, Vicki Halcumb had a routine screening mammogram that revealed a possible abnormality.

What followed were a few short months of ultrasounds, biopsies, and surgeries. By August 18, those procedures were behind her. On August 23, pathology results brought wonderful news: Vicki was cancer-free.

“It saved my life,” Vicki says of her screening mammogram.

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. And breast cancer doesn't always come with warning signs. Screening mammograms can detect cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Vicki's story is an important reminder: Don't wait for symptoms to take screening seriously.

CHN offers screening mammograms in Gold Beach and Brookings. No provider's order is required, but you must have a primary care provider to receive the results.

A special first at the Curry Infusion Center. 💙

Curry Infusion Center welcomed its first patient, Vicki Halcumb, pictured here with Matthew Tipping, MD. Vicki said, "it was a warm, welcoming, and compassionate environment during what can be a difficult time. I'm truly grateful to have these important services available in our community."

This is a meaningful milestone for CHN and for patients who can now receive more of their care closer to home. Matthew Tipping, MD, and Vijay Rao, MD, are both board-certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology, bringing valuable specialty expertise to Curry Infusion Center.

So many people helped bring this center from vision to reality, and welcoming the first patient makes that work especially meaningful.
