Did you know the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer was formed during repeated ice age floods, 13,000–15,000 years ago? 🦕

🛡️Earlier this year, Josie Brown from PHD's Critical Materials Program partnered with Jim Ekins, from University of Idaho Extension, to develop an informational video about the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer and how the community of North Idaho helps protect this natural community resource.💦

The Critical Materials program works collaboratively with over a thousand businesses to improve the operations and storage of materials that can pollute the aquifer.

🛢️Many industrial businesses store fuels, oils, paints, salts, pesticides, fertilizers, and other flowable materials that can spill or leak into the ground.

Household chemicals should never be dumped into the toilet or down the drain to the sewer or your septic system.

⚠The online Spokane-Kootenai Waste and Recycle Directory has an updated list of waste disposal providers.

🎀POWER FOR EVERY MAMA🎀
Comprehensive Cancer Control
Inspired by Hygieia, the goddess of health and prevention, we’re reminded that protecting our health isn’t just about treating illness, it’s about the everyday choices that help preserve well-being.
An estimated 25% of breast cancer cases are attributed to modifiable risk factors.
Consider choices that may help reduce your risk of breast cancer:
Maintain a healthy weight

Avoid or limit alcohol

Stay physically active

Breastfeed, if possible

Quit to***co and avoid secondhand smoke

Talk with your healthcare practitioner about the risks of prolonged hormone use

Minimize unnecessary exposure to radiation

Prevention is about knowledge, informed choices, and small steps that support your health today and for years to come.
Know your body. Prioritize your health.

🤝 The Power of Collaboration

It takes a community to support our youth.

We’re proud to see this story highlighting what can happen when people and organizations come together with a shared commitment to the well-being of young people.

The Idaho Youth Well-Being Survey creates an opportunity to hear directly from students about the issues affecting their lives, and, just as importantly, brings together the people who are willing to listen, learn, and take action.

We’re especially proud of Polly Grasham, Panhandle Health District’s Substance Use Disorder Prevention Educator, for helping bring this coalition together and create space for that collaboration.

There is something powerful about the many people who are willing to show up for youth, schools, public health, community organizations, youth-serving professionals, and individuals who believe our kids deserve a community that is paying attention.

No single organization can do it alone. But together, we can listen to our youth, understand what they need, and work toward meaningful change.

Thank you to everyone who is showing up, collaborating, and making space for the voices of our young people. This is the power of community. 💙

Throughout October and November, all students in grades 6-12 in the Coeur d'Alene School District will receive an anonymous survey designed to identify the biggest issues affecting youth well-being in the district.
