🍄 L👀K CLOSELY! OUR SHIITAKE LOG IS PRODUCING! 🍄

🍄💨 IS OUR SHIITAKE LOG FARTING?! 😂

Before anyone calls for a mushroom deodorizer, let’s talk about what’s happening on our growing shiitake log!

Those wispy, smoke-like strands around our mushrooms have us all taking a closer look. 👀

🍄 Mushrooms can release microscopic spores from the gills beneath their caps. Think of spores as the mushroom’s version of seeds (although biologically, they’re not the same thing!).

🌳 And yes, the fungus really is breaking down the wood! That’s how it gets the nutrients it needs to grow. As it does, it releases carbon dioxide—but not a visible cloud of mushroom gas!

So, is our shiitake log letting one rip? Probably not. 😂 The wisps could be moisture or spores, but we can’t say for certain just by looking.

Nature is fascinating, a little mysterious, and apparently full of opportunities for inappropriate jokes. 🤣

Another fresh round of garden beauties just hit the table at Grounded! 💐

These colorful little arrangements are made with flowers cut fresh from the garden, each one a little different and full of late-season color. From bold zinnias and cheerful sunflowers to wispy grasses and delicate fillers, nature really does make the best combinations. 🌼💜

But here’s the thing… our window for these garden-grown beauties is getting shorter! 🍂 If you’ve been thinking about bringing a little fresh color into your home, gifting someone a just-because bouquet, or brightening up your table, now’s the time!

This real hardwood log was inoculated by the same local Amish grower who supplies our shiitake mushrooms.
With the right moisture and conditions, mushrooms emerge right from the wood. We’re letting nature do its thing, one flush at a time while our Fun Guy takes care of the fungí! 😂
