Egypt already has extraordinary physicians, respected universities, deep clinical experience and something medicine must never lose: the human side of care.

A headline can make someone visible. Only decades of work can make them matter.

Leadership is not built in a moment.

It is built quietly—through years of showing up, making difficult decisions, accepting responsibility, learning from failure, serving others, and continuing when recognition never comes.

After more than four decades in medicine, I have learned that the most meaningful measure of leadership is not how often your name appears in the spotlight.

It is what remains because you were there.

The people you helped.
The professionals you mentored.
The doors you opened.
The institutions you strengthened.
The ideas you carried forward.

I spent years being the only woman in the room.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped counting.

Leadership changes when you stop measuring whether you belong in the room and start focusing on what you are there to contribute.

Over time, the question became less about who was represented around the table and more about whether the work being done was worthy of the people depending on us.

That is one of the lessons medicine taught me about leadership.

You do not earn trust because of a title. You earn it through preparation, judgment, consistency, and the willingness to take responsibility when the decisions matter most.

As Egypt looks toward the future of healthcare, I believe we need more leaders who are willing to bring experience, discipline, and courage into the rooms where important decisions are made.

It is becoming an economic one.

Around the world, a new longevity economy is taking shape — built around prevention, early detection, healthy aging, precision medicine, innovation, and the ability to help people live not only longer, but better.

The countries that recognize this shift early will have an opportunity to build entirely new ecosystems around healthcare, research, technology, wellness, investment, and human capital.

For Egypt, I believe the opportunity is especially important.

The question is not simply how we add years to life.
It is how we build systems that add health, independence, productivity, and purpose to those years — while creating an environment capable of attracting talent, innovation, investment, and international trust.

Longevity should not be viewed only as a healthcare objective.

What would you build differently if you knew it had to outlast you?

True leadership is not measured only by what we accomplish today. It is measured by what continues to create value for people we may never meet.

In healthcare, that means building beyond individual hospitals, technologies, or programs. It means creating enduring systems of quality, prevention, education, innovation, and trust.

For Egypt, this is a generational opportunity.

Imagine a healthcare ecosystem that serves Egyptians with excellence while earning the confidence of international patients, physicians, entrepreneurs, investors, and institutional partners.

After decades in medicine, I have come to believe that legacy is not about what carries our name. It is about what continues to serve when our name is no longer needed.

That is the future I want to help build for Egypt: healthcare with international standards, strong institutions, trusted partnerships, and a vision designed to endure.
