The vibes were HIGH on Eastern Parkway!

The Metropolitan community was thrilled to hit the streets for the West Indian American Day Parade, celebrating the music, culture, and energy that makes Caribbean culture so special. And this year, we had an even bigger reason to celebrate—our very own CEO, Julian John, served as a Grand Marshal!

Mr. John joined Caribbean music icons Kes the Band and Buju Banton (Buju Official), and NYS Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, and other elected officials, for a day to remember. From the music to the crowds, Metropolitan brought the energy all the way down Eastern Parkway!

Last week, NYC Health + Hospitals / Metropolitan partnered with Council Member Elsie Encarnacion, MetroPlusHealth, the NYC Department for the Aging, and Union Settlement to bring the 20th Annual Power of Aging Well Fair to our community.

Metropolitan Hospital was proud to support this event by providing health information and resources while connecting with older adults and community members. Our CEO Julian John and members of the Metropolitan leadership team also joined Council Member Encarnacion during the stage presentation to highlight the importance of strong partnerships in supporting our senior community.

The rain may have come down, but it didn’t stop us from celebrating the rich culture and spirit of Trinidad & Tobago!

Our Independence Celebration was filled with traditional food, history, music, dance, vibrant costumes, and plenty of smiles. We learned, celebrated, and enjoyed the traditions that make Trinidad & Tobago so special.

Despite the rain, the energy was unmatched and we had an absolute blast!

Metropolitan Hospital was proud to host the inaugural 2026 Met Nations Summit, welcoming our Latin American consular partners for an important conversation centered on healthcare as a human right. Discussions focused on addressing diabetes, breaking down language barriers, strengthening trust, and creating meaningful partnerships to better serve our diverse communities.

Consul General of Mexico Marcos Bucio led the initiative to bring together representatives from the Consulates of Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay, fostering collaboration, community engagement, and a shared commitment to improving access to healthcare.

With 62% of our patients identifying as Hispanic or Latino, these partnerships are vital to our mission. Building on our 150-year legacy, we remain committed to meeting our community where they are, listening to their needs, and providing accessible, compassionate care with empathy and respect.

Together, we are strengthening connections across our communities and building partnerships that will help create a healthier future for all.

Yesterday, our H3 Wellness Team treated our hardworking Metropolitan staff to a relaxing Wellness Spa Day! From soothing massages to refreshing drinks, it was a chance to pause, recharge, and take a well-deserved break.

Our Nurse Excellence Awards & Years of Service Celebration was an opportunity to honor the incredible individuals who go above and beyond every day to care for our patients, support their colleagues, and make a difference throughout Metropolitan Hospital.

We also proudly recognized team members who have dedicated 1–5 years of service to Metropolitan. Every year of commitment matters, and we are grateful for the talent, dedication, and compassion they bring to our hospital and our community.

Metropolitan Hospital proudly celebrates Dorothy Salmon-Lindsay, MSN-Ed, MPHA, RN, CEN, SAFE, on her retirement after an incredible 22 years with NYC Health + Hospitals, including 4.5 years with Metropolitan Hospital.

As a Nurse Educator, Level II in Nursing Professional Development, Dorothy has dedicated her career to educating, supporting, and empowering nurses while helping strengthen the future of patient care.

We are grateful for the knowledge, leadership, and dedication she has shared with our staff and patients throughout her remarkable career.

What a day! Our Annual Back-to-School Fair brought together more of our community than ever before, with families from the Bronx, Brooklyn, and across NYC joining us from as early as 9 a.m.!

It was a day filled with resources, fun, smiles, and support to help our children start the school year strong. We were also thrilled to see all of our raffle bicycles go home with children from our community!

A special thank you to New York State Senator Jose M. Serrano, MetroPlusHealth, the Nyc Department of Transportation, New York Health Care, James Ratti and all of our Community Board members, Metropolitan Auxiliary, Felipe Ayala Jr., and all of our incredible community partners who helped make this event possible.

Most importantly, thank you to the families who came out and made this year's fair our biggest and best yet!
