Atrophic scars can be challenging to treat, and selecting the right approach often depends on the unique characteristics of each patient and scar type. In this review published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, Dr. Scott Stratman and Dr. Helen He examine the role of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) CROSS, a targeted technique used in the management of atrophic scars.

The authors explore how TCA CROSS fits into the broader treatment landscape, including its use as a standalone procedure and alongside other modalities such as lasers, microneedling, subcision, platelet-rich plasma, and dermal fillers. The review also highlights considerations for diverse patient populations and the importance of individualized treatment planning.

The findings suggest that TCA CROSS remains a valuable option for scar management, particularly when treatment strategies are tailored to a patient's specific needs and goals.

“The best sunscreen is the sunscreen that you’ll actually use.”
Dr. Nicholas Brownstone discusses the newly FDA approved sunscreen ingredient — bemotrizinol, how it compares with existing sunscreens and recommends sunscreen usage:
-Use an SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum sunscreen
-Apply about one shot glass of sunscreen to cover the body
-Apply sunscreen about 15 minutes before going outdoors
-Re-apply every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating
