Before you drive home, ask yourself: what from today am I still carrying?

Name it. Give it somewhere to go.

🌿You spend the whole shift noticing everything about everyone else.

Then somehow your own day gets reduced to: “it was fine.”

Try giving yourself a 60-second report before you go home:

“What happened? What am I still carrying? What do I need to put down?”

You don’t need to fix it. Just stop letting yourself be the only person you never check in on.

♥️Save this for after your next shift.

🌿“I’m tired” is sometimes easier than explaining what actually happened during the shift.

But exhaustion and still carrying the shift aren’t always the same thing.

Before you go home, take 60 seconds and ask: what from today am I still replaying?

Name it. Write it down. Give it somewhere to go besides home with you.

♥️Save this for the shifts that stick.

🌿The strange part isn’t that a hard shift affects you.

It’s that nursing often gives you almost no transition between experiencing something intense and having to keep functioning normally.

A code ends. Another patient needs you. Someone screams at you. You still have meds due. The shift ends. You drive home.

Your brain doesn’t always get the chance to process one thing before the next thing begins.

That’s why “leave work at work” sounds simple but can feel impossible after certain shifts.

You can’t always choose what happens at work. But you can learn how to come down from it afterward.

🌿You check your mirrors more than the drive actually requires. your brain never really clocks out of scanning for what could go wrong.

that’s hypervigilance a nervous system that’s been in threat-detection mode for so many hours it forgets how to downshift, even when nothing’s actually wrong.

one of the fastest ways researchers have found to bring your heart rate down in real time: two quick inhales through your nose, one long exhale through your mouth. it’s called a physiological sigh. takes under 30 seconds.

save this for the drives that need it.

You used to feel something for every patient. Now you catch yourself dreading the next room before you’ve even walked in.

That’s not you becoming a worse nurse. That’s what happens when empathy gets spent for years with nothing coming back to refill it.

It has a name, and it’s treatable not a character flaw.

When did you first notice compassion starting to feel harder to access than it used to?

You didn't lose yourself.
You just haven't had a single hour that wasn't spent recovering from the last shift or bracing for the next one.

That's not a personality problem.
That's what happens when a job takes everything and leaves nothing for the person underneath the badge.

Nurse Reset System exists for the part of you that's still in there.

When did you first notice you'd lost touch with who you were outside of nursing?
