October 15th was White Cane Awareness Day. We wanted to relay what one our Help-U-Bridge participants shared about utilizing a White Cane. "My cane helps me to walk around and travel. It helps to protect me when walking. I use it to sweep by feeling for the grass at a park, doorways, and walls. I feel more independent when I use my cane"

October has a lot to celebrate! Down Syndrome Awareness Month is one of them and one that Help-U-Bridge is thrilled to acknowledge. We feel so fortunate to collaborate with so many individuals and their families expanding personal leisure interests, enhancing physical activity and social connections, incorporating inclusive community engagement and partnerships, and more.

Our Building Bridges for Life Delco Adaptive Bowling League is catching up to our Chesco League! It's gaining in numbers and scores. Maybe we'll have some friendly competition next month between leagues? If you would like to join our November league or any of our other events, follow our linktree. Staff Spotlight: Jess! Jess joined the Help-U-Bridge team Spring of 2026. Jess has been a great addition to our team as an employee and social work intern! She obtained a Bachelors degree in Special Education with a Minor in Psychology and is working on her Masters in Social Work. She has prior experience as an Early Intervention Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapist and a Program Director responsible for designing and facilitating services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Jess's professional interests are in community-based programming, outdoor education and family counseling. We are thrilled to have her as a Help-U-Bridge intern as well and look forward to her contributions through her internship experience! Jess also provides individualized in-home and community supports and is supporting Help-U-Bridge in implementing additional programming. Thanks Jess!

Thank you to DelCo CSP for having us as a guest facilitator at their Fall Family Festival! It was wonderful meeting the community and facilitating modified health and wellness activities. Participants were able to contribute to a communal fall themed art project and trial varying seated exercises facilitated by Help-U-Bridge, LLC Recreational Therapists.

Building Bridges for Life October Events & Activities are open for registration! Our Bowling Leagues are back with Chesco League on Fridays and Delco League on Wednesdays. We're also excited for our BB4L Fall Hayride on 10/15. Our Walk, Roll & Stroll Club still has a few more days in October and folks can still register for those.
