An analog ritual for a digital life.

Your brain doesn’t need another cheap hack.

Sometimes the answer isn’t another productivity trick, another notification, or another thing to consume.

Sometimes your brain just needs something tactile.

Try a few minutes of moving sand, rolling a sphere, making a little pattern, and letting your hands do something completely unnecessary.

That’s sensory wellness in our world: less input, more interaction. A tiny analog ritual in the middle of a very digital day as a creative reset.

Today I’m playing with our 8” Deep Dish “So Satisfying” Wonderscape. Let me know if you want the link with your current favorite emoji!

Give your brain something to do.

You spend enough time processing, scrolling, deciding, responding, and consuming.

Sometimes sensory wellness looks a lot simpler.
Move some sand. Roll something around. Make a tiny pattern. Give your hands something to do for a minute.

No productivity goal required.

Just play 🌞

If you rely on your work schedule to provide you an opening, you’re never gonna get a break…

So what you’re gonna do is, you’re gonna start small.

30 second breaks throughout the day.

In between meetings. After phone calls. Before you dive into the next thing.

It sounds small, but it’s something that most people can actually do.

If you shoot for the moon and go for the hour-long yoga class or meditation, something’s going to give. It might last a few weeks or a month. Your meeting goes long. Your deadline gets moved up. We all know what happens.

Not to say you shouldn’t do these things, but if you’re struggling to even stuff down a sandwich or go grab a coffee, just start small.

30 seconds or a minute. Try 10 deep breaths. A few stretches. A sensory break.

The only rule is, no apps and no electronics.

Keep this routine for a month and then up it to 5 minutes. Build up to what works for your particular schedule. Honestly- a consistent routine like this is so much better than stopping and starting a routine again and again.

Your nervous system will thank you!

No step-by-step guide for you to stack up with all the other free guides you forgot about.

Stop your scroll for a second. 🌊

Before you keep going, listen.

The sound of a sphere dropping into sand.

The soft movement of your hand rolling a delicate pattern in the sand.

Wind moving through the grass. Waves in the distance.

And then… everything gets smoothed out and begins again.

There’s something wonderfully simple about this rhythm.

Make something.
Notice it.
Change it.
Let it go.
Begin again.

Our Wonderscapes are handmade, one at a time, in our Portland studio, because we love creating little invitations to step away from the endless stream of screens, notifications and things asking for your attention.

This one is our little beach escape, and we call it “Sound Affirmations”.

A bit of sand.
A few spheres.
Some ocean sounds.
And no pressure to accomplish.

Maybe your brain doesn’t need another thing to consume right now. Maybe it just needs a few moments to feel something real 🤍.

So stay here for a few seconds.

Listen.

Play.

Reset.

And then, whenever you’re ready, carry on ✨✨✨

The digital world is loud. Your desk ritual doesn’t have to be.

Turn up your sound 🔊

Sand moving.
A sphere rolling.
That little scritch, scritch as a pattern appears.

No notifications.
No screens.
No productivity required.

Just a quick, ridiculously satisfying moment of touch, sound, and play.

Double tap if your brain needed that 🤍

Who says adults can’t play in the sand?!

We spend an awful lot of our workdays trying to be productive.

Hit the benchmark. Close the gap. Answer the email. Get to the next meeting.

And somewhere along the way, play tends to disappear.

We’re told to take a walk. Drink more water. Go to an art class. Make time for ourselves.

All good advice. But when your calendar is packed back-to-back, those are often the first things to go.

So we made something for the tiny spaces in between.

Thirty seconds between meetings. A moment while you’re waiting for a call. Something you can reach for when your eyes need a break from the screen.

A Wonderscape is a tray of sand and handmade concrete spheres designed for exactly that kind of moment.

Roll a sphere through the sand. Feel the grit underneath it.

Listen to that strangely satisfying sound. Watch the pattern appear.

Then do it again.

It’s not going to magically fix an overstuffed calendar. And it’s not a cure for stress.

It’s just a tiny invitation to do something different for a minute.

Something tactile. Something analog. Something a little playful.

Because maybe not every minute of your day needs to be productive.

Maybe some of them can just be fun.

Could you see yourself stealing 30 seconds for this? 👇

Who says adults can’t play in the sand?!

We’d like to offer a playful productivity hack that brings daily play back into your work space. So much time and focus in the workplace is spent on productivity goals. Trying to hit the next benchmark, focusing on closing the gaps. I don’t know about you, but my heart palpitates even thinking about this.

We all know that this heightened level of stress and anxiety isn’t the peak condition for our highest levels of productivity. We’re told to drink more water, take a walk, take an art class, etc. But those efforts are the first to fail when our schedules are jammed back to back with deadlines and meetings. They’re all good suggestions, but fall short when it purely comes down to available time in the day.

We’d like to offer a little mini break for your day. Something that you can do in that 30 seconds between meetings or phone calls. Something that you might even do while you’re on a Zoom call. Something that’s meant to get your eyes off the computer and enliven your senses. It’s for those of us that literally only have a few minutes to spare.

Enter- the Wonderscape. A wooden tray with sand and solid concrete spheres. The Wonderscape is meant for small moments of playfulness and creativity. Roll a sphere in the sand to produce patterns. Feel the grit of sand under the sphere as it rolls. Hear the sound of the sand (to me it sounds a bit like the ocean). See the beautiful patterns as you experiment with different movements.

A Wonderscape won’t solve a schedule that is too jam-packed. It’s not a miracle cure for stress- but it even giving yourself a few moments to reset throughout the day is worlds better than nothing at all. You can build other routines from there.

What do you think, could you see yourself starting this daily routine for yourself? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hi! I’m Sarah 👋. Now it’s your turn!

My husband Andrew has developed this concept of rolling spheres through a desktop sand tray for 18 years, and I’ve been along with him for the entire ride! Through a recession, two kids, COVID and Amazon copycats! (more on that later 🫠)

We started running the business together officially in 2014, but I’ve watched the business grow since he founded it in 2008.

I’ve worked as a recruiter, going to high schools and portfolio days around the country, as an academic adivisor and in International Studies, working to bring students to the US, and sending them overseas to study abroad.

Now I co-run our small biz with my husband Andrew. I sometimes can’t believe it when I look back, but we’ve turned a garage business into a stand-alone production studio! Built things from the ground up 🔥.

Many of you comment that you’ve followed us for X number of years and tell us in person where you found us, but I’ve shared a little here and I’d really like to know: Who’s here today, where are you from and what do you do?!

My Boss doesn’t know my secret productivity hack 😉.

What if your best productivity hack isn’t another app, system, or another carefully color-coded to-do list?

What if it’s… playing?

There’s something surprisingly useful about giving your brain a few minutes to wander.

Roll a sphere and watch the patterns emerge. Try something different.
See what happens.

And then go back to work.

Our Sparkle Motion set was handmade in our Portland studio for exactly this kind of desk-side rebellion: a little sensory play tucked into the middle of an otherwise very grown-up workday.

Because sometimes your brain doesn’t need another productivity strategy. It needs something tactile, playful, and completely different from staring at a screen.

And if your boss happens to walk by?

Well…

You were thinking.

😉

Your brain has enough tabs open.

You don’t need to optimize every minute of your day.

Sometimes you just need a moment to tune into your senses, make something satisfying happen, and let your attention land somewhere else.

A little analog play for a very digital day.

If your workday is mostly screens, decisions, emails, tabs and tiny things demanding your attention, consider this your permission slip to do something completely unnecessary.

Roll a sphere around in the sand to create patterns. Make your own mini landscape, then shake it away.

No productivity goal required, just a few minutes of tactile, analog play.

That’s sensory wellness the Olander way.
