Hemex Health

Hemex Health Hemex Health focuses on commercializing proven research into cost-effective, intuitive devices optimized for the underserved world.

Hemex has developed and released a diagnostic platform (utilizing technology which received a Patents for Humanity Award) that can quickly diagnose hemoglobin disorders, such as sickle cell disease and iron deficiency anemia, from a drop of blood. Our products are designed to be easy to use and provide benefit quickly and effectively for the healthcare worker and patient on the ground, at the point-of-need.

This September, Hemex Health joins sickle cell communities and healthcare organizations around the world in raising awareness of sickle cell disease and trait.

Many people who carry sickle cell trait do not know their status.

Greater awareness and access to testing can help people make informed decisions about their health and families.

Hemex Health, Inc. is pleased to share two recent peer-reviewed publications featuring Gazelle® in eJHaem and Blood Cells, Molecules, and Diseases.

Together, these publications add to the growing body of clinical evidence supporting Gazelle as a rapid, accurate, and accessible solution for sickle cell disease testing in decentralized care settings.

This evidence is especially meaningful as global health leaders continue to emphasize the need for earlier diagnosis and expanded access to testing. In the recent WHO guidelines, Gazelle was rated “Very accurate” for both neonates/infants and children.

We are proud to contribute to the evidence base supporting broader access to timely sickle cell disease diagnosis and care.

We’re pleased to share that Hemex Health’s Gazelle® technology is referenced in the new World Health Organization (WHO) consolidated guidelines for the management of sickle-cell disease in children and adolescents.

The guidelines highlight point-of-care diagnosis and early identification as a priority area for improving care for children and adolescents living with sickle cell disease, especially in settings where access to centralized laboratory testing is limited.

This recognition reinforces the importance of the work we set out to do: bring accurate, accessible blood testing closer to the patients and healthcare teams who need it most.

We are encouraged to see growing global attention on earlier diagnosis, stronger care pathways, and more access to sickle cell testing and management.

Today, Hemex Health recognizes World Blood Donor Day and extends our gratitude to the millions of voluntary blood donors around the world whose generosity helps save lives every day. ❤️🩸

As a company focused on blood health, we understand the critical role that blood donation plays in patient care. For many individuals living with conditions such as sickle cell disease, thalassemia, trauma-related injuries, and other blood disorders, access to a safe blood supply is crucial.

Our thanks to all blood donors, healthcare professionals, and blood collection organizations working to support patients and strengthen healthcare systems around the globe.

We were honored to see Hemex Health and the Gazelle® platform* featured in this Kenyan national news segment as part of an important initiative expanding access to sickle cell screening and care in Kenya.

On April 29, Hemex Health’s Gazelle® platform was featured during a newborn screening training initiative in the Kisumu and Nyanza regions of Kenya, with the goal of expanding access to sickle cell disease diagnostics and care.

The event brought together nurses, community health workers, and representatives from Kenya’s Ministry of Health (MOH), including Dr. Yvet Kisaka; Selina Olwanda, CEO of the Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation; Mr. Abdou Salam of Fondation Pierre Fabre; and Emily Gumbo, CEO of the Sickle Cell Federation of Kenya, to strengthen diagnostic capacity at Level 3 and 4 county hospitals.

As part of an ongoing collaboration with the MOH and AMPATH Kenya, Gazelle has been incorporated into the Afya Dhabiti program to support screening efforts for 2,000 infants ages 0–5 in Migori, Siaya, and Trans-Nzoia counties, while also supporting hydroxyurea monitoring and long-term disease management through stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

This International Day of Families, Hemex Health recognizes the important connection between early diagnosis, access to care, and family wellbeing.

This year’s theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” highlights how access to healthcare and early intervention can shape a child’s future and support stronger, healthier families worldwide.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes early detection and comprehensive care as critical to reducing complications and improving survival for children living with sickle cell disease.

At Hemex Health, we are committed to expanding access to timely, diagnostic tools that help bring screening and care closer to the communities that need it most.

It was incredibly valuable to attend the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) meeting and see how red blood cell exchange is advancing care for patients with sickle cell disease — and how important timely hemoglobin data can be in supporting these workflows.

Shown here is Jack Fischer, Global Product Manager at Hemex Health, with Dr. John Manis at Boston Children’s Hospital, who is currently working to better understand how red blood cell exchange (RBCx) can be made more efficient and personalized for each sickle cell patient.
