I have a coin in my pocket. On one side there is vulnerability, philosophy and community. On the other side we see leadership, transcendence and ascension. Most people think they have to choose a side... Presence spends both at the same time.

You can buy a lot with this coin, including a copy of “Metaphors of The Rich and Famous”. For a limited time, comments will be free!

The deepest leadership grows out of vulnerability, and transcendence doesn’t leave community behind—it embraces it. Vulnerability and leadership are not opposites - they are part of the same unfolding.

Leadership that isn’t rooted in vulnerability eventually becomes performance. Vulnerability that never grows into leadership remains hidden.

One discovers the truth.
The other lives it.

The same is true of transcendence and community: Transcendence isn’t an escape from people. It’s the ability to be fully present with them.

Community isn’t a distraction from awakening. It’s where awakening learns to walk, laugh, forgive, and belong.

The coin has two sides. But it has only one value: Presence

Today's Beacon Sound:

Where your attention rests, your life quietly gathers.
Not because the universe is keeping score,
but because attention is participation.

The things we return to—
our knowing,
our gratitude,
our curiosity,
our love—
become the places where we begin to live.

Perhaps the invitation isn’t to think harder. Perhaps it’s simply to notice where your awareness has made its home.

Presence doesn’t force the next step. It illuminates it.

And from that quiet place, life has a remarkable way of meeting you.

Life doesn’t always change by giving us new circumstances. Sometimes it changes by offering us new eyes.

The shift often begins not with acquiring more information, but with becoming available to a different way of seeing. In light of all of life’s challenges, I have come to see that relationships are my most valuable asset. When we spend time really getting to know another, and really sharing our authentic self, our heart flies and doors open!

Careers change. Markets rise and fall. Health shifts. Plans unravel and begin again.

But the people who walk beside us, who remember us, who forgive us, who laugh with us, and who remain present through the changing seasons of life—these become the true wealth we carry.

Perhaps the greatest investment we will ever make is not in accumulating more, but in loving more deeply.

When everything else is measured, relationships remain priceless.

I create Beacon Sounds for people who feel there must be a quieter, kinder, more authentic way to live. We may be weary from striving, overwhelmed by the noise of the world, disconnected from ourselves, or longing for deeper meaning. My songs and these written perspectives don’t try to fix anything —they remind us of something that we already carry within.

Life doesn’t always change by giving us new circumstances. Sometimes it changes by offering us new eyes. The shift often begins not with acquiring more information, but with becoming available to a different way of seeing.

I believe all people are looking for a connection (of various kinds). Part of my current objective and goal in life, through the creation of a strong foundation for our family, is to create original music and write articles that can also offer a connection. You might have visited my music website and listened to a few songs - or maybe you haven't yet...

The word "presence" is mentioned because I have found that a presence is something quite deep, and I want to experience it everyday, and bring it out in both my writings and in my music.

Perhaps you can resonate with it. Please explore the site.

The Energy of Abundance

The oak tree does not count its leaves; The river does not measure its flow; The sunrise does not wonder if there will be enough light for tomorrow.

Nature moves from abundance, not because it possesses everything, but because it trusts the source from which it comes.

Many of us were taught to scan for what is missing:
not enough time,
not enough money,
not enough energy,
not enough certainty.

Yet beneath all the calculations, another possibility quietly waits.

What if there is enough for this moment?

Enough breath for the next step.
Enough wisdom for today’s decision.
Enough strength for the challenge before you.
Enough presence and connection for one day.
Enough love to give and enough love to receive.

Life rarely reveals the entire path at once - It simply offers the next stepping stone. Perhaps abundance begins when we stop asking, “Will there be enough?”, and we begin noticing,

“There is enough for now.”

And from that place, the next step appears.

Bookshelf

I poured my heart into a song
Just like a little cup
The memory might stay with you
Until you give it up

I keep it on a bookshelf
In a corner far away
from life and all its purposes
From the movements of the day

Next to Dickinson’s little bird
Next to paths in snowy wood
Van Gogh painted cypress trees
Like no other painter could

I wrote it on a Saturday
all quiet and serene
When clarity was calling me
From spaces in between

This work can surely move me
Make me feel so light and free
It might be forgettable to you
Yet it means the world to me

I offer you this moment
drink a lot or just a sip
A gesture just as simple
As the smile upon my lips

So come on back and find me
Any night at half-past ten
The words, rhymes and melodies
Will be waiting once again

In the corner of my bookshelf
The little cup is not so small
It holds the sandy weight of time
and feathers when they fall

I poured my heart into a song
Just like a little cup
The memory might stay with you
Until you give it up

The Book We Didn’t Know We Needed

Sometimes the most helpful book isn’t the one that teaches us what to do. It’s the one that quietly gives us permission to stop trying to figure everything out for a little while.

I’ve spent many hours following a laser-focused thread of understanding—watching ideas connect, patterns emerge, and a philosophy slowly take shape. There is joy in that work. There is purpose in it.

But every so often, I wander into a room where no one is trying to solve anything.

Just observations.
Just passing thoughts.
Just the weather of the soul.

And strangely, I leave refreshed. Perhaps consciousness doesn’t always want to climb the mountain. Sometimes it wants to sit by the river and watch the water carry leaves downstream.

The week ahead will undoubtedly present problems to solve, decisions to make, and goals to pursue. There is work to be done.

Yet some of our best work may come from a place that doesn’t feel like work at all.

Maybe the field is growing while we are simply noticing it.
Maybe understanding deepens when we stop chasing understanding.
Maybe the quiet moments are not interruptions to the journey—they are part of the journey itself.

So, for this week, if you find yourself pausing for no apparent reason, looking out a window, taking a slow walk, or reading something that serves no practical purpose, don’t be too quick to call it wasted time.

The roots of the tree are invisible.
And yet, they are doing their work.

Beacon Sound:
The field is never in a hurry. It simply continues becoming what it already is.

Time is my friend and my enemy
One hand opens, one hand closes me
One says wait, the other says begin
Both are whispering beneath my skin

There’s a Beacon Sound hidden here. The same force that gives life its urgency is the force that gives it its depth. Without time’s limits, many things would never become precious.

There are many Beacons that light our way, especially when the need for clarity becomes obvious. For me, I need calm without explanation; presence without teaching, and a quiet steadiness that does not need to prove itself. There are many ways to connect with the need we have for steadiness, presence and calm. I believe we want to secure this with the ease and flow inherent in our lives every day; just like it is presented in a single breath.

No matter what comes, let us know the way forward in a real understanding.

As part of an offering of song, this one was created to express the need talked about in this "Beacon Sound" for today.
