"PGD may serve to enhance teacher-student relationships, thereby creating a more positive classroom climate for all." โ€” Cook et al. (2018)

Positive Greetings at the Door (PGD) is a low-cost, high-impact strategy that sets the tone before instruction even begins. ๐Ÿ–๏ธTaking a few seconds to connect at the threshold helps reduce disruptive behaviors, increases academic engagement, and fosters a strong sense of connection and belonging.

Be inclusive and supportive by offering multiple entry options:
๐ŸคœFlexible Greetings: Verbal hellos, fist bumps, waves, AAC modeling, or a simple head nod.
๐Ÿ’™Low-Pressure Entry: Respect when a student needs a quiet, low-demand transition into the room without requiring performative interactions.
๐ŸŒŸPre-Corrective Reminders: Gently setting positive behavioral expectations to start the day.

How do you customize your door greetings to fit the unique needs of your learners? ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘‡

"To teach me, you must know me." โ€” Dr. James Comer

Greeting students by name at the door sets the stage for meaningful connections. Whether it's a high five, a wave, a fist bump, or modeling AAC, taking a moment to welcome each student builds trust and creates a safe, empowering classroom where all learners can thrive. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

By offering flexible, inclusive ways to connect, we cultivate empowerment and ensure every student feels seen, valued, and respected from the moment they walk in. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

What's your favorite way to greet your students? ๐Ÿ‘‡
