Hello to all the new faces on here since last June!
Here's a fun little bio about me 😉

Dr. Stephanie Huhn, DO —
Direct Primary Care Menace (in a good way)

Board-certified in actually giving a damn, Dr. Huhn runs on caffeine, clinical excellence, and a personal vendetta against rushed 7-minute appointments. She didn’t just leave the traditional healthcare system… she escaped it, kicked the door shut behind her, and built her own patient-first empire where you can text your doctor like a normal human being.

Specializes in:
💯 Listening longer than your last relationship
💯 Explaining things without making you feel dumb
💯 Preventing Google from diagnosing you with 12 rare diseases
💯 Casually fixing your life one lab value at a time

Known side effects of becoming her patient include: ✔ Feeling heard
✔ Actually understanding your health
✔ Mild confusion when your doctor answers you quickly??

She operates out of Rolla Direct Primary Care — a small but mighty clinic where “membership medicine” means no insurance middleman, no nonsense, and no being treated like a number in a waiting room purgatory.

Rumor has it she can:
💥 Decode lab results like it’s a secret language
💥 Remember your name, your meds, AND your life story
💥 Fix your blood pressure and your trust issues (no promises on the second one, but vibes are strong)

In the meantime...
• Catch her in the wild: 📍 Accepting new patients
📱 Probably responding to a patient message right now
💬 Saying “we’ll figure this out together” and actually meaning it

💛 May is officially recognized as Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month. It is a global public health initiative dedicated to educating people about sun safety, promoting early detection through regular skin checks, and reducing the incidence of the most common cancer worldwide. 💛

Prevention:
• Sun SafetyApply Sunscreen Daily: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Reapply every two hours, or after swimming and sweating.
• Wear Protective Clothing: Cover up with lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, pants, UV-blocking sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats.
• Seek Shade: Avoid direct sunlight during peak UV hours, typically between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Detection: The ABCDE GuideRegular self-examinations are critical, as skin cancer is highly treatable when caught early. Check your skin from head to toe once a month, looking for any new or evolving spots.

Use the ABCDE guide to identify potential melanomas:
• A - Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other.
• B - Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred.
• C - Color: The color is not consistent and may include different shades of brown or black, or patches of pink, red, white, or blue.
• D - Diameter: The spot is larger than 6 millimeters (about the size of a pencil eraser), though melanomas can be smaller when first detected.
• E - Evolving: The mole is changing in size, shape, color, or elevation. It may also bleed, itch, or crust.

Find a Dermatologist: Get an annual, professional skin check. You can search for board-certified dermatologists using the American Academy of Dermatology Tool.

This month, led by organizations like the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), highlights the impact of allergic diseases and advocates for better care, research, and treatments.

• Food Allergy Awareness: A major component of the month dedicated to educating people about food allergies, risk factors, and life-threatening anaphylaxis.
• Air Quality and Asthma Awareness Week: Focuses on how environmental factors, pollutants, and the climate crisis affect asthma and respiratory health.
• Eosinophil Awareness Week: Brings attention to Type 2 inflammation and related immune responses.

✨️The Facts✨️
• Widespread Impact: More than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies, and over 25 million live with asthma.
• Food Allergies: Around 90% of severe food reactions in the U.S. are caused by nine major allergens-- milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, crustacean shellfish, and sesame.
• No Known Cure: For food and severe environmental allergies, the primary defense is strict avoidance of the allergen and carrying emergency treatments (like epinephrine auto-injectors)

✨️ Spearheaded by the Preeclampsia Foundation and supported by organizations like the March of Dimes, the campaign focuses on educating expecting mothers about the signs, symptoms, and risks of this serious hypertensive pregnancy disorder. ✨️

Today, is also World Preeclampsia Day.
• Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) complicate 5-10% of all pregnancies worldwide. They include: preeclampsia (with or without severe features), eclampsia (seizures), HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets), and gestational hypertension.
• Preeclampsia is most often characterized by a rapid rise in blood pressure that can lead to seizure, stroke, multiple organ failure, and death of the mother and/or baby.
• Approximately 76,000 women and 500,000 babies die each year worldwide.
• The United States currently ranks 47th worldwide for maternal mortality, and is the only industrialized nation with a rising maternal mortality rate.
• HDPs, including preeclampsia, are a leading cause of maternal and infant illness and death here in the United States.
• Black women experience severe maternal morbidity events at a rate 2.1 times greater than white women.
• 60% of hypertension-related maternal deaths are potentially preventable -- there continue to be missed opportunities for appropriate, recommended care of severe maternal hypertension.

May is Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month, focusing on building bone health and proactive lifestyle habits.

-Why These Campaigns Matter-
• The Silent Disease: Osteoporosis progresses without symptoms until a fracture occurs, making early screening and risk assessment critical.
• Global Impact: Millions of people worldwide remain undiagnosed and undertreated until a debilitating hip, spine, or wrist fracture impacts their independence.
• Building Better Bones: Campaigns emphasize lifelong bone health through a calcium-rich diet, vitamin D intake, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol.
