It’s not that you don’t know how to do this ⬇️

It’s that you have to remember. A lot of us do.

Trauma leaves you with protective mechanisms that feel safer in predicting, mitigating, and rationalizing.

In the process of healing and finding safety, as your body learns how to stop bracing for impact, you have to unlearn these things.

You have to remember what it’s like to feel like you have 2 feet flat on the earth while you are in the messiness of life.

And when folks I work with find themselves in this space of remembering to hold 2 (or more) complex truths at once, my heart swells.

Because I know that is crucial for them to have lasting results.

Generalizations like this completely ignore all nuance.

And nuance is what is needed most for trauma recovery.

Especially for q***r and neurodivergent folks who are already living life in ways society doesn’t support.

The nuance of your identity, brain, nervous system, and circumstances are going to give context to what will work best for you.

I make plenty of content that has general themes that I see in my work.

And it also has an arch, where I bring in the moment what I am talking about changes based on the uniqueness of you.

This is the basis of all of my work with folks.

I have lots of helpful frameworks and exercises that can provide therapeutic benefit..

But you are the expert on you and your intuition and insight is always centered in my space.

This week my somatic group program for q***r and neurodivergent folks on trauma recovery is starting!

I’ve sat with a lot of folks while they move through this experience, but now I’m actually doing it myself.

It’s so wild and I love watching my daughter’s little fearless, sassy self come alive.

At the same time, my body remembers what it was like to be afraid and unsure.

A lot of folks I work with ask the question “but if I can’t remember it, does it actually matter?”

Yes it does.

It actually doesn’t even matter if it’s “true” or not.

If that’s how you feel, it’s impacting how you move through the world.

Then it’s worthy of processing and exploring.

Many of our bodies remember what it was like to not be sure if we could count on our caregivers.

That is why somatics works so well for so many people.

Because the body gets the chance to speak. To be heard. To be tended to. To be healed.

This is incredibly unique for q***r and neurodivergent folks who have a lifetime of experience being told they are wrong.

You are not wrong. You are magic. And I built my group program Recovering Connection just for you. 🌈🧠

I know how frustrating it is to try to access joy and feel like it’s out of reach.

I sit across the room from this sensation all the time and I have experienced myself.

The ache in your chest when you see someone you love in their joy, and longing for that.

Or feeling like you’ve been bracing for impact with your muscles tight forever, and wanting so badly to release.

The truth is, everyone needs something different in order to heal from trauma.

Especially q***r and neurodivergent folks, who often have very dynamic emotional experiences.

So the framework I shared above is about HOW I help folks through this specific struggle.

But the way their unique brain and nervous system responds are what really drive the work.

That’s why I work from a place of balancing frameworks and individualized support.

Which is exactly how I have build my group program Recovering Connection.

I see you in this moment.

I have been there myself too, many times.

I know the complex reality of seeing it all clearly and somehow finding relief in that.

Which feels confusing, how can understanding my pain more cause a sense of relief?

Because staying confused often isn’t sustainable.

I had a teacher once say, “confusion is where we hang out when we aren’t ready to see the answer, but we always know the answer.”

That rings true in this experience. Sometimes confusion is protective.

But the clarity comes with immense grief.

So remember to be gentle with your heart during these times.

Find a combination of non-judgmental space to process, resources for supporting your mind-body, and community to witness your growth.

You know by now that my group program Recovering Connection has all that rolled into one.

There is an ease in that, rather than building all the pieces yourself

And the q***r and neurodivergent folks I have the privilege of working with deserve as much ease in trauma recovery as possible.

The hollow sensation in your chest that makes you want to reach out for help, but you’re surrounded by people who haven’t noticed or won’t understand.

I know this sensation both personally and in my work with folks recovering from trauma.

You are not alone. And while people may not understand your exact situation, many can empathize with the feelings you experience.

It’s a group program because we need this healing to happen in community. You need to be witnesses in your pain, growth, and joy.

It’s somatic so that your nervous system learns how to feel safe in yourself and your exploration of the world and relationships.

We are meaning making beings. ⬇️

And I know when my anxiety or stress is up because I’m desperately grasping for meaning at everything.

Seeing a hawk means I’m on the right path, or the wrong?

What about that 444 on my phone? It means I need balance, but how do I do that?!?!?!

In the moments where I am able to access my deeper connection to myself and the natural world, these moments are quiet nudges. Simple moments of connection.

When I’m anxious, they are fear screaming at me to watch where I’m going! 🚨

We want to understand ourselves and the world, that makes perfect sense.

And you need nonjudgmental space to process what you are experiencing emotionally so it doesn’t take over your nervous system.

So it doesn’t leave you in anxiety and fear for days, weeks, or months.

Recovering connection is my somatic group program for q***r and neurodivergent folks coming out of constant survival and ready to explore what it means to thrive after trauma.

Ready to learn how to make meaning that supports your authentic self, rather than drives you deeper into shame.

Let me be clear ⬇️

I am talking about this from an expressing your authentic self, setting the boundaries you need, and being present with your joy sense.

This is not a “let’s bypass the harm we can cause other people.”

We need to do the work to ethically show up in relationships we care about.

To decolonize our language so we don’t perpetuate systems of oppression.

And letting someone be uncomfortable with the boundary you need to set is essential.

“Making” them feel better isn’t your responsibility.

Avoiding conflict to not hurt their feelings isn’t helpful.

This is where understanding the unique language you’re nervous system is speaking is so important.

So you can identify what you need to feel even a little bit safer setting the boundary.

Recovering Connection will have that, alongside 5 other incredible teachers of alternative healing modalities to support your growth.

Other things I used to be embarrassed about ⬇️

🧠 = things I attribute to being neurodivergent
🌈 = things I attribute to being q***r

🧠 struggling with knowing the different between left & right
🧠 reading painfully slow (I have a reading disability)
🧠 going from 0-60 with auditory overstimulation
🌈 the fluidity of my sexual orientation
🌈 the unique ways I show love and care to people
🧠🌈 my need for novelty

It’s important to say that at the time I was embarrassed about these things, the therapist I was working with was not aware of any of these intersections.

She was a great therapist in many ways, but when it came to these 2 important parts of my identity, upon reflection, she probably wasn’t the best fit.

I could have been saved a lot of shame and embarrassment but understanding these things more deeply.

This is why I focus my work on q***r and neurodivergent folks.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said in session “that’s actually really common experience for someone with _________.”

And it’s followed by a deep breath from the person I’m working with.

It’s so important to see our experiences reflected in others.

Which is why I created Recovering Connection to be a group space.

Where your identity and uniqueness is not only seen and respected, but celebrated!
