I wish I had understood this about my body 10 years agoā¦
I thought being healthy meant pushing harder.
More workouts.
More cardio.
More restriction.
More discipline.
Push through the exhaustion and just keep going.
I was really good at grinding it out.
Until my body started telling me it didnāt want to live that way anymore.
Menopause changed the conversation.
I started realizing that poor sleep mattered. Stress mattered. Recovery mattered. Alcohol affected me differently. And eating less and exercising more wasnāt necessarily the answer anymore.
So I made a shift.
I stopped fighting my body and started listening to it.
I prioritize sleep and recovery instead of feeling guilty for needing them.
I manage stress because I know my health depends on more than what happens in the gym.
I rarely drink alcohol because Iāve learned that what feels good for a few hours often doesnāt feel good in my body afterward.
I drink my water.
I prioritize protein.
I strength train because at this stage of life, maintaining muscle isnāt just about how I lookāitās about how I want to live and age.
And Iāve chosen to utilize hormone replacement therapy and physician-guided metabolic tools as part of my overall health strategy.
The goal isnāt to find a shortcut.
The goal is to give my body the support it needs in this season of life.
And maybe thatās the biggest lesson Iāve learned:
You canāt keep handing your changing body an old blueprint and then blame yourself when it stops working.
Sometimes the answer isnāt more discipline.
Itās more understanding.
More recovery.
More nourishment.
More muscle.
More support.
And a completely different approach to what being āhealthyā actually looks like.
At 58, Iām not interested in grinding my body down just to make it smaller.
I want to build a body that carries me into the next chapter strong, healthy, energized and feeling better than I can remember.
Thatās the shift.
