At The Autism Program of Illinois (TAP), we believe that to create change for children and families impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD), you have to develop programs and services firmly rooted in the latest research, promote awareness in the community, and increase the availability of proven services. That is why the TAP Service Network promotes ongoing research, works to link services across the state, provides training and consultation for new and experienced professionals, and offers a number of services directly to children and families. Some of these services include: screening and diagnosis, new diagnosis orientation, resource rooms and support, consultation services, social skills and group services, and training programs. Have you heard of the Blue Envelope Program?

It's a simple tool designed to help make traffic stops safer and more understanding for drivers with autism. Earlier this year, Sangamon County joined other communities in implementing the program locally. Now, the Blue Envelope Program has officially been signed into Illinois law and will be available statewide at no cost through the Illinois Secretary of State's office beginning January 1, 2027.

The program is another step toward improving communication, increasing understanding, and creating safer interactions between law enforcement and individuals with autism.
