Your brain sends millions of messages a second. It only takes one jam to back them up. ๐Ÿ’š

Picture I-135 at rush hour. One car breaks down in a single southbound lane, and within minutes the whole interstate is crawling. The northbound lanes are open and most of the carsโ€™ engines run fine. But none of it matters, because everyone is stuck behind that one spot. ๐Ÿš—

Your spine works the same way.

๐Ÿง  Messages pour between your brain and body every second, riding the nerves that run through your spine. It's the busiest highway you own.

When a joint gets stuck and stops moving the way it should, it presses on that flow. We call that stuck spot a subluxation.

Now the messages behind it slow down. The signal still gets through, just late and muddled, and your body starts running on old information. That can show up as reflux, colic or constipation in a baby, tense shoulders and low back pain in mama, or a kiddo who canโ€™t focus and doesnโ€™t have good motor skills. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จ

Here's the good news sitting in that traffic! You don't have to rebuild the highway. You move the one car causing the jam. ๐Ÿ’š

That's what an adjustment does. We find the exact spot that's stuck, clear it, and the traffic flows again on its own. Your body was never broken; it was waiting on the lane to open.

Reaction time starts in the nervous system, not the legs (or eyes). ๐Ÿƒ

Every move your athlete makes, the read, the pivot, the swing, the sprint, is a message traveling from brain to body and back. The faster and cleaner that message runs, the sharper they play.

โšก Reflexes. A body reacts as fast as its signal travels. When the spine is moving well and free of interference, that signal has a clear road, and clear roads are quick ones.

๐Ÿ”‹ Recovery. Kids bounce back fast, and they bounce back faster when their nervous system can drop out of go-mode and actually rest and repair between practices and games.

๐Ÿ’ช Performance. Balance, coordination, and body awareness all run through the nervous system. Support that, and you support everything they've been drilling all season.

This is true from the six-year-old learning to catch a tee-ball to the high schooler under the Friday night lights, and for the weekend warriors in their 40s. Every one of them runs on the same wiring. ๐Ÿ’š

We check young athletes for exactly this at New Beginnings: gentle, specific chiropractic adjustments that keep the signal clear and the body ready to go. ๐ŸคŽ

Reflux is one of the top three reasons a baby comes to see us at New Beginnings. ๐Ÿ’š

You may be asking, โ€œwhat does the spine have to do with a baby spitting up?!โ€ (Great question.)

๐Ÿง  The brain and nervous system run everything, digestion included. Nerves from the brainstem and the spine tell the stomach when to move, when to empty, and when to settle. That includes the vagus nerve, and it travels right through the upper neck on its way down.

๐Ÿคฑ Pregnancy and birth ask a lot of a brand-new body. They spend months curled in tight positions, and then their birth can impact their spine, whether it is a long labor, a fast one, all natural or with interventions. The body adapts by shifting somewhere else, and now the nerves are working through the noise.

The result you actually see: spitting up, arching, pulling away when nursing, crying after a feed, or a belly that never settles. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จ

We check babies for where there is tension and nerve irritation. Adjustments and craniosacral work are gentle, no twisting and no cracking, just the pressure of a fingertips and steady contact helps to release. ๐ŸคŽ

We often refer families to a lactation consultant to help with any other issues, and may suggest an evaluation for lip or tongue ties to also help a baby to suck and swallow correctly with taking in too much air.

If you've switched formulas three times and you're still covered in spit-up after most feedings, come let us look. Call 316-531-9110 or book at newbeginningswichita.com. ๐Ÿ’š

What does a calm day look like at your house? For this family, it now looks like a boy on his bike! ๐Ÿšฒ

Last fall, a six-year-old came in. He was toe-walking, and focusing at school was hard. His family was in the middle of getting an ADHD evaluation. Mom and Dad were doing everything they could think of, and they wanted someone to look at the whole picture.

So that's what Dr. Hanna did. A full history, a full exam, a careful look at how his spine and his nervous system were actually working. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จ His body answered a lot of it on its own. He was tense. He could barely relax for a gentle neck adjustment. His nervous system was parked in fight-or-flight, with very little attention left over for sitting still and learning.

๐Ÿง  One of the questions in that history was whether he ever cross-crawled as a baby. He didn't.

Crawling on all fours is a pattern that asks the two halves of the brain to work together and synchronize. It's the same pattern a body uses to walk, run, and ride a bike!

Dr. Hanna checked this little boyโ€™s spine, found the interference, adjusted gently and specifically, visit after visit.

His parents have been working hard on all of this right alongside him with other therapies, that are now more effective.

They report more calm days, and Dr. Hana notices he is able to settle into his adjustments now instead of bracing for them.

๐Ÿšฒ And last month, he rode a bike!! That takes both halves of the brain talking to each other in real time. That's a real win for function and expressing life clearly.

Weโ€™re excited to see how he does going into this next school year!

Your kid's body is about to go from sunshine and sprinklers to seven hours in a chair. ๐Ÿ“š

That's a real change, and their nervous system feels every bit of it. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿˆ Fall sports. Practice is starting soon and lots of kids go from a lazy summer straight into the fall season. A body that moves well and recovers well starts with the spine that isn't fighting itself.

๐Ÿช‘ The sitting. Seven hours at a desk, then homework, then a screen. Kids were not built to hold still that long, and their spines let them know.

๐Ÿง  The focus. A new teacher, a new schedule, a 6:30 alarm. Paying attention all day is work, and it takes a nervous system that can settle and stay settled.

Your child's spine protects the line between their brain and their body. When that line is clear, the body handles the load. When there's interference, everything gets harder than it needs to be, and it usually shows up as the stuff you notice: rough sleep, short fuse, achy backs, the same complaint every afternoon. ๐Ÿ’š

Now, the grown-ups. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Parents, you're the one running the 6:30 alarm, the drop-off line, the paperwork, and the 8pm meltdown. Teachers, you're holding a room full of nervous systems all day. Coaches, you're out there in the heat with twenty kids who all need something. That takes serious regulation, and you cannot pour it out of an empty tank.

Adaptability is a nervous system skill. Every one of you needs a body that can meet a hard day and come back down afterward. ๐ŸคŽ

Get the whole family checked before the season starts, not after everybody's been running on fumes for a month. And teachers and coaches, we see you. Come get adjusted too. ๐Ÿ’š

That scoot is adorable. Let's talk about what crawling on all fours is actually building. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿง  Crawling on all fours means right arm and left knee, then left arm and right knee. Over and over. That pattern asks the two halves of the brain to talk to each other and time it out together.

This is an important, brand-new job for a baby's nervous system, and it's the same pattern you use every time you walk across a room.

Parents film the scoot, the army crawl, the one leg that drags, the baby who skips crawling and goes straight to walking. They're super cute and funny. ๐ŸคŽ They're also the body finding a workaround, and a workaround becomes a habit fast.

Two things can get in the way of true cross-crawling, and we check both. ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ The picture. Muscles move when the brain sends the message. Interference in the spine makes that message fuzzy, and one side may not get as clear a picture of the job as the other.

2๏ธโƒฃ The parts. Hips, knees, shoulders, and the whole spine have to move freely. A restricted hip is a hard thing for a baby to crawl around, so she finds another way.

Chiropractic care at New Beginnings checks both so your baby has a clear signal and a body that can follow it. Equal movement on both sides, up on all fours, doing the work. ๐Ÿ’š

Where's your little one right now? Scooting, rocking, cruising, or off to the races? Tell us below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

If you laughed at slide 3 and then went quiet at slide 5, keep reading. ๐ŸคŽ

You may be wondering how a mama's coffee habit, a baby's gas, and a kindergartner's fourth ear infection all land in the same carousel. Here it is.

๐Ÿง  Your spinal cord is the main line between the brain and the body. Every message the body sends and every order the brain sends back travel that road.

Riding right alongside it is the vagus nerve, which runs from the base of the brain, through the upper neck, and out to the heart, lungs, stomach, and intestines. It tells the gut when to move and when to digest. It is also the nerve that lets the body drop out of stress mode and rest. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จ

However, physical, chemical, and mental stressors can affect how well these messages get relayed!

๐Ÿ‘ถ Pregnancy and birth put a lot of pressure on a brand-new spine. A long labor, a fast one, a vacuum, forceps, a C-section, and weeks stuck in one position can all impact nerve function. It can show up as colic, ear infections, and milestones that keep getting pushed back.

๐Ÿ’› And mama, you are on the same wiring. Months of carrying a car seat on one hip, sleeping in twenty-minute pieces, and running on caffeine keeps your body parked in stress mode with the rest signal turned way down.

Chiropractic care checks the spine and clears the interference gently so the signal is clear and the body can do what it already knows how to do. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ“ฒ Mamas already in care with us: send this to the friend who has tried everything and still feels stuck. She needs to know there is another place to look.

In fact, Dr. Ashley Thompson is the only ICPA-certified chiropractor in Wichita! That's years of extra study through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, all of it focused on pregnancy, babies, and growing bodies. Both Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hanna are Webster-certified to help pregnant moms have the best prenatal experience.

Another skill that sets us apart is our gentle adjustments. Newborns need only fingertip pressure to โ€œmeltโ€ a misalignment into place.

In this clip, Dr. Thompson is clicking an Activator tool, which gives an adult or child the exact amount of pressure they need, in exactly the right spot, without twisting or cracking. ๐ŸคŽ

All of it rests on one idea: your body was made to heal, and your nervous system runs the whole show. Chiropractic care finds where that signal is getting stuck and clears the way so your body can do what it already knows how to do.

Since 2006, more than 7,000 families have trusted New Beginnings

Chiropractic with this work, from pregnant mamas and brand-new babies to wild toddlers and the families who just want to continue to thrive without common childhood issues.

Wherever you are in your parenting journey, there's room for you here.
