Please keep our fellow Washington parasport team along with all residents in the path of these wildfires in your prayers. Just as Wichita is the hub for parasport in Kansas, Spokane is the hub for parasport in Washington. So many of these coaches and athletes have either lost homes and/or have friends and family who are now facing the devastation that these wildfires have caused in their community.

Rescheduled Track and Field Party Info:

ALL ATHLETES WHO EVER CAME TO A PRACTICE IR ANY MEET THROUGHOUT THE SEASON ARE WELCOME!!

Wildfire track and field athletes, please mark your calendar for August 8th for a fun party. Some of us are just arriving home from Nationals and unfortunately, I need to leave for a few appointments at Mayo on Sunday. Due to travel and appointments the party is now in August. I am sorry to move the date, but I all look forward to seeing you all soon to celebrate an awesome season!!!

Although, we primarily focus on track and field as our team sport while here at Nationals in Michigan, we did have two very talented individuals compete in Powerlifting. Wenxi took home gold in the all-around and silver in bench. Meanwhile, Karter lifted his way to gold in both all-around and bench. Let's just say college recruiters pay attention when a 15 year old wins the national meet in the 15-21 year old division! This also provided an opportunity for me to observe and learn about another adaptive sport. For instance, athletes are divided by age and impairment in Track and Field, but in powerlifting they only divide out into 4 different age groups and a few weight classes, but do NOT lift according to impairment. They also MUST have their legs strapped to the bench and lift in KG instead of Lbs. The energy in the room was spot on, it was an honor to watch several wounded veterans compete, and it opened my eyes to another opportunity provided within the adaptive sport community. If you have never attended an adaptive sporting event of any kind, I highly recommend you place it on your bucket list. You will learn so much and everyone always appreciates support!

The sun has set on our 2026 track and field competition. Today we had the 100m dash. Both Sammi and Jed cut over 2 seconds, which is quite a challenge to do in a 100m dash!! Then Carson was well on his way to a personal best by about 3 seconds, but lost his shoe in the final 30m. Despite the pain of the hot track on his foot he still finished only .2 seconds off of his all time best! Micah set a season's best time and Isabel broke into finals and wrapped up our morning at her very first National meet. We then celebrated at Red Robin, and a few of us spent the afternoon at the beach. Today, we switch things up and support 2 different Wichita Adaptive Sports athletes, Wenxi and Karter in Powerlifting. As a coach, I am beyond thrilled with their performances, compassion towards everyone participating at the meet and the optimistic attitude everyone kept in the midst of hot and a few long days. Congratulations 🎉 🥳

It was another packed and eventful day on the track. This morning we cheered on Micah and Isabel in the 1500m. Micah was able to hang on to claim the bronze medal while Isabel finished in 5th place. We then switched gears to the 400m where Carson ran a personal best time sliding into 2nd while Micah added his second bronze of the day. Isabel finished 6th and Sammi claimed 8th place.
I was a little concerned that we only had one person in a single event improve on their personal best or even season best times, but a mid afternoon nap served them all well as every single athlete cut some massive time. We started the afternoon the Micah and Isabel in the 800m. Micah took home his third bronze of the day, but worked hard for it, cutting 8 seconds off of his all-time best. This is a huge accomplishment considering he has been competing for a decade. Isabel broke into finals taking home 5th place while cutting 5 seconds from her all time best. Then in the 200m every single athlete set a PR. Carson claimed our first gold medal cutting 3 seconds off of his time, Jed also took home a gold medal cutting a second from his best time. Isabel once again broke into finals taking home 7th and cutting 2 seconds while Micah barely missed bronze, settling for a 4th place finishcutting a second from his season best time.
I could not ask for a better group of athletes to coach. They are serious when they need to run, but also take the time to meet friends, share advice, and support their teammates and competitors alike!

Tomorrow we wrap-up track and field with 100m dashes and a much deserved celebration. Then, we have two additional athletes, Wenxi and Karter who will compete in Powerlifting on Tuesday.
