Based on how these September babies are giving it up, I am officially afraid to move a muscle. 😭😂

We already had one little lady decide she was READY and basically fly out before anybody could get situated!

So September mommies and babies… I’M WATCHING Y’ALL. 👀

Dads: im watching you too! You all take the labor prep too seriously and REALLY know how to get that oxytocin going naturally 👀👀👀👀👀

Please don’t try anything funny. 😂 At this point, I might start sleeping in my scrubs with my doula bag by the door.

Because clearly September said: stay ready so you don’t have to get ready! 😂🤰🏾💨

And for the record, this is the only baby I’m expecting to hold without warning today. 😂🩵

What a day! 🥹💕🎀

At 4 AM, one little baby girl decided she was READY to make her entrance and apparently, she had no intentions of waiting on anybody! Not even mom!

Mom’s contractions started and quickly became close together. She remembered what I shared with her regarding tracking her contractions. By the time she arrived at the hospital, baby’s head was already coming out! Dad was right behind her and still didn’t even make it into the room before things got moving. That’s how fast this birth happened!

But can we talk about labor preparation?!

During our prenatal visits, Mom and I spent a lot of time talking about breathing, staying in control, and working with her body during labor. She remembered how difficult it had been to control her breathing during her previous birth and wanted this experience to be different.

And when the moment came, she remembered what we’d discussed. ❤️

She breathed. She focused. She trusted her body.

Before the doctor could even make it into the room, baby’s head was out. One more push and there she was. 🎀

I may not have made it there in time for this lightning-fast delivery, but hearing Mom tell me how she used the tools we’d worked on reminded me of something important:

Doula support doesn’t begin when labor starts.

Sometimes the most important work happens weeks before birth… preparing, educating, building confidence, and giving a mother tools she can reach for even when her doula isn’t standing beside her.

I joined them on the postpartum unit afterward, and what followed was such a beautiful, refreshing conversation about faith, family, parenting, and the love of the Lord. ❤️

Mom and Dad are doing wonderfully, Big Sis has officially been promoted, and Baby Girl is absolutely fabulous.

Welcome to the world, sweet girl. You certainly know how to make an entrance! 🥹💕

🎉 IT’S OFFICIAL — MEET ASHLEY! 🤎🌿

Her probationary period is COMPLETE, and I’m so excited to officially introduce Ashley, our Administrative & Client Services Coordinator at Sincerely, The Village Doula & The Village Baby Pantry.

But Ashley’s story with The Village started long before she was ever on payroll.

Ashley is a mama to two sweet babies, and I had the privilege of supporting her through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum with one of them. She went from client, to someone who stayed connected, to someone who believed in this vision so deeply that I barely had to explain it, she just SAW it. She was literally in labor speaking over my business and how she could see where it was going!

Honestly, Ashley was working for The Village before she ever worked for The Village. 😂 She was brainstorming, creating, helping, and pouring into the vision simply because she believed in what we were building.

When I considered hiring her, I prayed HARD. I wanted to be sure the people I brought close to this vision were people God was sending and He spoke clearly. Ashley was supposed to be here. 🤎

Since then, she has been a mastermind behind so many of our initiatives. From creating graphics and supporting our clients, to doing the heavy lifting of admin work and helping with The Village Baby Pantry, Ashley’s fingerprints are on so much of what happens behind the scenes.

She helps turn my 75 ideas into actual plans 😂, gives me perspective, and will absolutely put me in my place when necessary. She’s gifted, creative, dependable, a fellow New Yorker 🗽, and genuinely invested in the families and community we serve.

There’s something special about someone who once trusted me with her family now being someone I trust with this vision. That is what The Village is all about.

And we’re not done yet! 👀 Ashley will soon be transitioning into a new role within The Village that will make room for even more of her gifts. We’ll share more about that soon. 🤭

For now, Ashley: probation is OVER! You’re officially official. Thank you for believing in the vision before there was ever a position attached to it.

The Village is better because you’re here. 🤎🌿

Help me celebrate Ashley! 🎉👏🏾

WE HEARD YOU! 💕🏡

As we’ve been connecting with families interested in our Mother’s Helper and Overnight Newborn Support services, one thing became very clear:

Families need childcare they can actually feel comfortable with.

Not just someone who is available. Someone who is trusted, reliable, compassionate, and committed to caring for your children well.

So… The Village is growing again. 🥹

I ran into one of my recent birth dads today, and I walked away SO proud. 🥹💙

He was absolutely GLEAMING as he told me how well Mom and baby are doing.

But what really stood out to me was how much he KNEW. I am not surprised because he was at nearly EVERY prenatal appointment. I got to know him just as much as mom!

He knew how breastfeeding was going.
He knew about her milk supply.
He knew baby’s sleep patterns.
He told me how they’ve been alternating shifts so they can both get rest.
He spoke about Mom’s experience with so much empathy.
And he even remembered, “You guys offer postpartum support too, right?”

YES. WE DO. 😭

This is what I mean when I say fathers belong in the conversation about birth and postpartum.

Not standing on the sidelines.
Not waiting for Mom to tell them what needs to be done.
Not simply “helping with the baby.”

Engaged. Informed. Attentive. Parenting.

There was something so beautiful about hearing a father speak confidently about what was happening in his own home—his partner’s recovery, their feeding journey, their baby’s needs, and how they were navigating this new season TOGETHER.

Birth work isn’t only about helping someone have a baby.

We’re helping families transition.

And sometimes you get to run into them afterward and see the fruit of it in real time. 🥹

THIS is the village. 💙

September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month. 🕊️

As a doula, infant mortality is more than a statistic to me.

I have had the privilege of standing beside families during some of the most beautiful moments of their lives—but I have also stood beside families when pregnancy and birth did not end the way anyone prayed, planned or hoped.

Those experiences stay with you.

Behind every infant mortality statistic is a baby who was deeply loved. There are parents, siblings, grandparents and entire families whose lives were forever changed.

This month is an opportunity to bring awareness to infant loss, but also to the factors that can impact infant survival—including prematurity, birth complications, congenital conditions, safe sleep, access to quality prenatal and postpartum care, and the disparities that continue to affect families across our communities.

Awareness should lead us to education.
Education should lead us to advocacy.
And advocacy should lead us to action.

It should also remind families who have experienced loss that their babies are not forgotten. 🤍

If you or someone you love needs support following pregnancy or infant loss, please save and share these resources:
