💙 ACTION IN AUTISM’S SKILLS TRANSFERENCE WORKSHOP: TWO DAYS OF LEARNING, UNDERSTANDING AND EMPOWERMENT! 💙
On 16 and 17 October 2026, Action in Autism hosted a meaningful and enriching Skills Transference Workshop, bringing together educators, psychologists, occupational therapists, parents and family members committed to supporting autistic individuals.
Over two days, attendees engaged in valuable learning and practical discussions focused on understanding autism through a neuroaffirming approach — one that recognises, respects and embraces neurodiversity while placing the individual at the centre of support.
🌟 The workshop explored a range of important topics, including:
đź’™ Embracing neurodiversity and understanding the autistic experience.
đź’™ Understanding communication differences and exploring ways to enhance communication.
đź’™ Sensory processing and practical sensory support strategies.
đź’™ Understanding meltdowns, recognising underlying needs and supporting emotional regulation.
đź’™ Classroom supports and developing individualised learner support programmes.
đź’™ Understanding executive functioning and supporting autistic individuals to cope with anxiety.
đź’™ Recognising the importance of family dynamics in supporting autistic learners.
One of the most powerful and fundamental aspects of the workshop was hearing from three dynamic autistic individuals who shared their lived experiences. Their voices brought invaluable insight, reminding us that meaningful support begins with listening to autistic people themselves, respecting their perspectives and learning from their experiences.
The knowledge shared by our presenters equipped attendees with practical strategies and a deeper understanding to take back into their classrooms, homes, workplaces and communities. Together, we continue to build environments where autistic individuals are understood, accepted, respected and supported to thrive.
