Hearing changes are not always sudden. Sometimes sounds gradually seem softer, whispers become harder to hear, or there is new ringing or buzzing in the ears.

One possible cause is otosclerosis, a condition involving the tiny bones in the middle ear. It affects women more often than men, and it can run in families.

Over the next few weeks, pay attention to changes in your hearing. If something feels different, book a hearing assessment so you can understand what is going on.

Hearing changes are not only about getting older.

Hormonal stages and certain broader health conditions can also be relevant to hearing, tinnitus, and balance. Over the next few weeks, we are unpacking what women should know.

Stage 3 is the final part of our balance assessment series: neurodiagnostic testing.

This is where we look more closely at how your brain, eyes, and vestibular system communicate, using more in-depth testing as needed.

By bringing together the findings from all three stages, we can build a much clearer picture of whether your dizziness or instability is connected to your vestibular system and what needs to happen next.

Not sure where your balance assessment should start? Get in touch with our team, and we can guide you.

Stage 2 of our balance assessment series.

This is where we start testing: hearing, positional and balance checks, coordination, and a brief cranial nerve screening.

All of these pieces help us understand the bigger picture and whether we need to move on to more in-depth neurodiagnostic testing.

Stage 1 of a balance assessment is not a test. It is a conversation. And that session matters more than most people expect. Follow along for Stage 2.

Feeling dizzy, unsteady, or like the room is spinning?

Your first balance assessment takes about 90 minutes and helps us begin piecing together what may be causing your symptoms. We look at your history, hearing, eye movements and how your balance system responds.

From there, we may recommend further testing, create a vestibular rehabilitation plan, or connect you with the right healthcare professional.

WhatsApp, email or call our team. We will guide you from there.

Dizziness or imbalance accompanied by slurred speech, numbness, weakness, shuffling feet, or debilitating headaches is cause for concern.

These symptoms may point to central vertigo, where the brain areas responsible for balance are involved.

A comprehensive assessment can help identify whether the cause is central and guide the next steps with a neurologist and the wider medical team.
