I broke my toe today, which means I get to practice on myself. Healing a broken toe with herbalism is easy! Plants can help speed the healing of a bone, reduce swelling and bruising, and help with pain. 🌱🖤

Spending a little more time indoors because of the smoke, so here’s a peek at what I’ve been making lately. ✨

I’m taking this indoor interlude as an excuse to finally tackle my EXTENSIVE and slightly unruly jar collection.🫙😂

In this month’s column, I respond to a reader who left a twenty-year marriage and is asking how to trust herself when the fear still feels so loud. I talk about the difference between doubt and grief, and how fear like this is often the nervous system catching up to a choice the heart already made. I share grounding rituals like oatstraw infusion and motherwort tincture, along with a gentle practice of speaking soothing words to fear instead of fighting it, as ways to steady the body while trust slowly rebuilds.

A reflection on what it feels like to leave a twenty-year marriage and still doubt yourself, even when you know it was right. This piece explores fear as an old nervous system pattern rather than a warning sign, along with gentle rituals, oatstraw infusion, motherwort tincture, and speaking soothing...

In this month’s column, I respond to a reader who asked what to do when life starts to feel flat and distant and the things that once felt like “you” stop feeling accessible. I talk about “glimmers” as a way back in, small moments of beauty, presence, and connection that can gently cut through overwhelm, and share simple ways to reconnect with your body, your attention, and the quieter parts of joy.

We weigh herbs to ensure consistency and accuracy because volume measurements can be unreliable. Herbs vary widely in size shape and density whether they are whole cut or sifted and even the same plant can differ significantly from batch to batch. Measuring by weight instead of volume gives far more precise measurements. So everyone please get a scale for nourishing herbal infusions. 🤓

Pink Eye Cure 👁️🌿

In this video I share how to create and apply a fresh Chickweed poultice for inflamed, infected, and irritated eyes.

Can’t find any fresh Chickweed? Here’s an alternative recipe below.

Susun Weed’s Healing Wise Chickweed Eye Lotion:

4oz distilled water
4oz witch hazel
1 tbsp Chickweed tincture

Combine all ingredients in a clean jar and shake well. Wet a cotton cloth or cotton ball with lotion and apply to closed eyes for 3 minutes. Discontinue if eyes are sensitive.
