Week 4 of North York Summer Camp! 💙

One of our busiest weeks of the Summer was filled with bouncing, playground adventures, music & movement!

Our campers enjoyed a visit to the playground, another special session with our favourite Music Therapist🎶, a visit from an amazing firefighter🚒, and an incredible visit from Elevation MA & Training Centre who led our campers through inclusive martial arts activities!🥊

This week’s visits and activities provided wonderful reminders of the importance of trying new things!🌟From learning martial arts, to trying on firefighter equipment, our campers explored new experiences, built confidence and celebrated the idea that movement is for every body — there are so many ways to participate, challenge ourselves and have fun!

What does “grading an activity” mean? 💯

In therapy, we don't just make an activity easier or harder. We can change different parts of the activity to find the right amount of challenge for each individual.

That might mean changing:
🦘 Speed — slowing down or increasing the pace
🧍 Position — sitting, kneeling, standing, or lying down
💪 Resistance — changing how much force or strength is needed
↔️ Amount of movement — making movements smaller, bigger, slower, or more dynamic
🧩 Equipment — adding or changing tools, surfaces, or supports
🤝 Support — providing more assistance or gradually reducing it

For example, two children might be doing the same activity on the trampoline, but one may need additional support to maintain their position while another may be ready for a greater balance challenge. The activity can be adapted without changing the overall goal. Grading allows therapists to meet someone where they are while still creating opportunities for growth.

At TheraBounce, we're constantly looking at what each individual needs to participate successfully and how we can adjust the environment to create the right challenge for them. 💙

When people think about trampolines, they usually think about jumping and strengthening the legs. But when used therapeutically, there's so much more to it than that! 💪

The trampoline provides endless opportunities to develop upper body strength, stability, coordination, and fine motor skills in ways that are engaging, purposeful, and individualized.

That might look like placing rings onto cones to work on dexterity, pushing bolster and mats across the trampoline to build strength and coordination, pushing through the arms while rolling over a bolster, or naturally supporting the body in positions like four-point kneeling. Each activity has a therapeutic purpose and can be adapted to align with the individual's goals, abilities, and interests!

Because the trampoline is an unstable surface, the upper body is constantly making small adjustments to stabilize, support movement, and respond to changes in position. These experiences help develop the strength, control, and endurance needed for everyday activities like playing, dressing, writing, transferring, and participating more independently.

At TheraBounce, we know therapy is about more than exercising muscles. It's about creating meaningful opportunities to build the skills that support participation in everyday life.🫶
