Physicians. Nurse Practitioners. Naturopathic Doctors.

In Ontario, these are the only three regulated professions authorized to assess, diagnose, and independently develop treatment plans across multiple organ systems.

So why are only two of the three included in Ontario’s primary care planning?

Every qualified and regulated profession should be part of the conversation. Together, we can strengthen Ontario’s primary care system.

Primary care isn’t just about who you see. It’s about how much time they have with you to get to the root cause of your health concern.

Typical primary care appointments run 10–15 minutes. Naturopathic Doctors spend 45–60 minutes per visit, with ongoing care every 3 to 6 months.

NDs are trained in prevention, root-cause care, and long-term disease management, giving patients the time and continuity that chronic conditions need.

That’s longitudinal primary care many Ontarians can’t access anywhere else right now.

Oral micronized progesterone (OMP) is recognized as the gold-standard form of progesterone for hormone therapy and endometrial protection.

Ontario NDs are already authorized to prescribe other forms of progesterone but not this one. That means patients either go without the safest option or book an extra appointment elsewhere to get it.

The fix is simple: a single route-of-administration amendment.

Patients shouldn’t have to choose between access and safety.

The future isn’t far. Ontario’s health challenge is already here.

In 2002, 1 in 8 Ontarians over 30 lived with a major illness. By 2040, that number will be 1 in 4.

Chronic disease isn’t an aging population footnote. It’s the central challenge facing Ontario’s health system, and prevention-focused care has to be part of the answer.

Naturopathic Doctors are trained in exactly that. Root-cause, preventive care that keeps people well before they need a hospital bed and Ontario has 1,700+ NDs ready to help.
