The Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society is proud to congratulate Dr. Betty Nantongo on completing the African Pediatric Fellowship Program (APFP) in Paediatric Anaesthesia and Critical Care.

During her fellowship year, Dr. Nantongo developed advanced expertise in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia, neonatal emergency anaesthesia, paediatric critical care, point-of-care ultrasound, and anaesthesia for complex transplant surgery. She also began collaborating with the Vital Anaesthesia Simulation Training (VAST) program to develop simulation-based neurosurgical training.

Beyond the clinical skills gained, this fellowship represents an investment in sustainable paediatric care. Dr. Nantongo now returns home equipped with knowledge and experience that will directly strengthen anaesthesia and critical care services for children in her country.

We are also proud to announce that the African Pediatric Fellowship Program is now fully funded by CPAS, reflecting our continued commitment to advancing paediatric anaesthesia training and global partnerships.

Congratulations Dr. Nantongo — we look forward to the impact your work will have.

A pediatric anesthesiologist, patient safety leader and published poet! His newest book draws on the realities of clinical care, including the op**te crisis, and the complexity of human experience.

We’re fortunate to have someone so insightful, curious, and ridiculously multitalented on our Board.

👏 Congrats, Conor!

The Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society (CPAS) has released a statement regarding the recent adoption of Bill 2 in Quebec.

While CPAS supports the goals of improving access and accountability within the healthcare system, we are concerned that certain measures—such as performance-based remuneration and restrictions on professional advocacy—may have unintended consequences for the recruitment and retention of pediatric anesthesiologists.

At a time when Canada already faces a shortage of these highly trained specialists, it is vital that healthcare reforms support collaboration, morale, and patient care.

CPAS stands with our colleagues in Quebec and across Canada in calling for constructive dialogue and partnership in shaping meaningful, sustainable healthcare reform.

👶 Children deserve timely, safe, and specialized anesthesia care.
