💤🎒 Don’t wait until the night before school to reset the routine.

Earlier bedtimes can be one of the toughest parts of the back-to-school transition — especially for parents and grandparents helping everyone get back into a rhythm.

Gradually shifting bedtime and wake-up times in the days leading up to school can help make the transition feel a little smoother for the whole household.

Try easing back into the routine by:

✅ Moving bedtime and wake-up time earlier little by little
✅ Returning to a consistent evening routine
✅ Keeping morning wake-up times steady
✅ Creating quieter evenings as school approaches

💬 When does your household start the back-to-school sleep reset?

1️⃣ One week before
2️⃣ Two weeks before
3️⃣ We wing it

Sleep is only one part of the transition. Regular meals, movement, hydration, and consistent daily routines can also help support a healthier start to the school year.

And while you’re helping everyone else get back into routine, don’t forget your own health. Changes in schedule can affect sleep, stress, energy, and overall well-being for parents and grandparents too.

Busy summer days can still leave your mind feeling “on.”

L-theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves, including green tea.

Researchers have studied L-theanine for its potential effects on relaxation, stress, attention, and sleep. Some research has shown promising results, but findings vary and the evidence continues to develop.

Curious about L-theanine? Our Naturopathic Doctors can help you understand the evidence and discuss whether it may be appropriate for you based on your individual health needs.

💧 Pause the scroll—when was your last sip of water?

Quick check-in: How many glasses of water have you had today?

💬 0–2, 3–5, or 6+?

Hot weather and physical activity can increase fluid loss through sweating, while busy summer days can make it surprisingly easy to forget to drink regularly.

Signs of dehydration can include:
• Thirst
• Dry mouth
• Dark yellow urine
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Unusual tiredness

Keep water nearby and drink regularly throughout the day, especially when you’re active or spending time outdoors.

There isn’t one amount that’s right for everyone. Fluid needs can vary depending on your health, activity level, and the weather.

💬 How are you doing with your hydration today?

🍊 Vitamin C isn’t just for cold season.

Although it’s often associated with immune support during the colder months, vitamin C plays important roles in the body throughout the entire year.

Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and helps support:

- Normal immune function
- Collagen formation for healthy skin and connective tissues
- Wound healing
- The absorption of iron from plant-based foods

Vitamin C is found naturally in many foods that fit easily into summer meals, including strawberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, kiwi, and citrus fruits.

Many people can meet their vitamin C needs through a varied diet, but individual needs can differ. Supplements are available in a range of forms and amounts, and more isn’t always better.

If you have questions about your vitamin C intake or whether supplementation may be appropriate for you, our Naturopathic Doctors can review your individual needs and discuss nutrition and supplementation options with you.

💬 What’s your favourite food source of vitamin C?

🦟 Some people seem to attract every mosquito in sight.

Others make it through summer evenings barely bitten.

Which one are you?

👍 Mosquito Magnet
❤️ Barely Bitten

Most insect bites and stings cause mild, localized symptoms such as itching, redness, pain, or swelling. Severe allergic reactions are uncommon, but they can be life-threatening.

🚨 Call 911 immediately if someone develops:

- Trouble breathing, wheezing, or throat tightness
- Swelling of the tongue or throat
- Fainting, severe dizziness, confusion, or collapse
- Hives or swelling together with symptoms such as trouble breathing, vomiting, or dizziness

These symptoms may indicate anaphylaxis and require emergency treatment. If the person has a prescribed epinephrine auto-injector, use it promptly and call 911.

For a mild reaction, a cold pack may help reduce itching and swelling. Try to avoid scratching, and seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or signs of infection develop.

Enjoy the rest of summer—and stay safe outdoors!
