The FOL team went on a tour of the Active Design factory with

It was refreshing to see a UK business that does everything in house as it has become such a rarity.

Manufacturing in this country has taken a battering over the decades. Much has moved abroad in the name of cutting costs which has led to a real loss of skill and craftsmanship.

Like Active Design, it’s important to us that every Series 5 powerchair is built here in UK, by people who genuinely care about what they're making.

Next week I'll be visiting Kent with my 50at50 mission, aiming to complete the 45km Whitstable to Ramsgate coast path

This time I'm being supported by wild_with_wheels, Cinque Ports Mobility & Healthcare, Lumen Mobility and of course Quantum Rehab UK

I'm being joined by good friend I Am Isaac Harvey who will be on his new Freedom One Life chair and is going to be our first big adventure together since meeting 4yrs ago!

I will also be paying my respects as an Army Veteran, at the Battle of Britain Memorial, before riding across the white cliffs of Dover to the, Fan Bay Sound Mirrors, which were used to detect approaching enemy aircraft before the invention of radar.

Hopefully we will show what's possible and inspire people to do whatever they can to get outdoors and benefit from everything that nature provides us with, especially in the crazy times we live in.

Kerbs, kerbs, kerbs - everywhere is kerbs! When you’re a powerchair user you’ll know the constant frustration at the lack of dropped kerbs. So we made it a priority when designing the Series 5.

Most chairs force you to either build up speed and momentum, or drop down kerbs backwards. The Series 5 does it differently. Its powerful motors and robust wheels let you approach at a slow, controlled pace and simply trust the chair to do the work, giving you confidence rather than compromise.

With a little practice, and some assessment of your comfort level, the Series 5 can tackle kerbs up to 120mm high!

Isaac gave us some insight into his seating and the powerchair he has used for the last 8 years. Since his last seat cushion, his needs have changed, so working to create something that can meet his current needs and help with pain management was essential.

It was a pleasure to work with Active Design on this project to make Isaac’s custom seating a reality!

We caught up with Kate to see how she’s doing post Race Across Europe, and hear what life is like with a Series 5.

It was so wonderful to hear the impact RAE and the chair have had on her life, not just in a practical sense, but in the self-confidence it has brought her. You can’t expect hard days to disappear, but Kate's approach to them, her determination and her vision for what's possible, makes them look very different from before.

An introduction to Isaac Harvey MBE!

It’s been such a fantastic journey getting Isaac a Series 5, from meeting him at the RAE premiere and seeing the real and genuine reaction he had to the chair to working on a new seating solution to suit him.

Being able to partner with someone so creative, outgoing and authentic means a lot to us at FOL.

We are really looking forward to showing you the entire process of this, and letting Isaac go out and live a life of freedom!

We are so pleased to introduce to you our new Freedom One Life Ambassador - Isaac Harvey MBE! 💜💚

Isaac is a disability advocate, creator, editor and in his own words “all round adrenaline junkie” - the perfect candidate to work with FOL!

After coming along to the premiere of Race Across Europe at the end of last year, Isaac came away feeling that life could be bigger, and he could go further with a Series 5. His previous chair served him well, having had it for eight years. But now he’s ready to take on new adventures that seemed out of reach before and continue to live a full life, now in a Series 5.

This project was something new for us, as Isaac requires foot controls for driving, which was something we haven’t yet had to face. But now that we have done it once, we can do it again!

We also had a great time working with custom seating company Active Design, who created a fully moulded seat to Isaac’s exact specification.

We are really looking forward to showing you the entire process of Isaac’s chair, from his initial visit, to the Series 5 build, Active Design creating the seat cushions and the final reveal plus everything Isaac gets up to from now on.
