🌱 Things are growing quickly in Edge Woods... and we're not just talking about the veggies!

May was another busy month, with wildflower seeds, vegetables and herbs planted, seedlings thriving, a shed successfully relocated, and the completion of what can only be described as a rather impressive bug hotel 🐞🐝

Every project in Edge Woods is about more than just the finished result. From teamwork and problem-solving to practical outdoor skills, sustainability and responsibility, there has been plenty of learning along the way.

Kitchen round up time...🫑🍅

This week's kitchen challenge saw the groups put their skills to the test, creating a variety of healthy and delicious meals from a mystery bag of ingredients and a selection of store cupboard staples....Ready Steady Cook, Edge-Style!

With no recipe to follow, participants had to think creatively, make decisions, adapt their ideas and work together to turn available ingredients into complete meals. Alongside the cooking itself, the challenge encouraged planning, problem-solving, communication and adaptability — all valuable skills that transfer far beyond the kitchen.

Safe to say there were some impressive creations on the menu this week! 👏

Grey skies, glassy water and not a breath of wind!

Perfect conditions for the Life and Year 3 groups to get out on the paddleboards last week and put those SUP skills into practice.

Balance, coordination, confidence and a lot of laughs along the way too 👌

From tiny seeds to thriving shoots, it’s been fab watching the first signs of growth appear before they make the move outdoors. Safe to say the teams are (rightly!) very proud of their future veg patch already.

The seedlings are destined for Edge Woods, but for now they’re enjoying the warmth and sunshine of the Day Services Building 🌱☀️

Kitchen round up time…….

Last week, the groups tried out a hearty Sausage Casserole 🍲🥕 Packed with healthy veg, this one brought plenty of opportunities to build real-world kitchen confidence and practical life skills.

From weighing and measuring ingredients, to practising knife skills, safe food preparation, timing and teamwork — there was a lot more going on than just cooking dinner 👏

Learning to prepare healthier, balanced meals is such an important step towards greater independence, confidence and informed choices around food and wellbeing. Plus, it smelled incredible by the end 😄

Supporting autistic young adults and those with additional support needs though our specialist day programmes to build confidence and transferrable skills that lead to positive destinations including volunteering, employment and greater independence.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲.

We’re looking for people who are proactive, adaptable, outdoorsy, calm under pressure, and genuinely passionate about helping young adults build confidence, independence and real-world skills.

🌊 Outdoor and activity experience is a plus
🚗 Driving licence preferred
💻 Confidence with IT systems required
🧠 Values and attitude matter just as much as experience
